So it definitely sounds like it is the water pump… but they are going to have to remove the timing belt to verify for sure. All in all… about a $200 expense on a car that doesn’t go into the shop very often… if sort of maintained… and is just used for short trips to the store and work. It’s not a long-haul kind of vehicle.
Took an earlier bus this morning to work… got in to the office about ten after six which I’m sure will be a shocker to my supervisor who looks at the online timeclock of when I clocked in. Bus coming to work… nice and quiet. Bus leaving work going home… O_o
A whole different ballgame depending on the direction one is traveling. I had a family… two parents and three or four kids get on at one stop and the kids were extremely noisy and the father was not helping the situation either. Was so fuckin’ happy when they got off… I was getting ready to blow a fuckin’ gasket and rage on this asshole that no one else wanted to listen to his annoying fuckin’ brats yelling and screaming on an enclosed bus.
But on my trips… I’ve been able to sit down and get further into my Pokemon game. That seems to be a bright spot… a decent reason to stay on the bus solution. The cost factor is another possible savings.
Bear with me on this one…
Current gas prices around the corner from me were $3.17 per gallon when I filled up the Honda on Monday. I think they were $3.19 this morning. It cost me about $25 to fill up the tank. That tank will last me at least two weeks… sometimes a bit longer than that depending on any other sidetrips I might or might not take during that two week period of time.
So for one month it would cost me at least $50 for filling up the gas tank. This is not including any sort of future repairs needed on the vehicle.
Current monthly bus passes are $45. I can leave my place at 5:30am… go to the AM-PM on the corner to pick-up my two 1-liter bottles of Mtn Dew and the walk down Harbor to Chapman and wait for my 5:47 bus to arrive. Granted, I am losing thirty minutes of sleep doing it this way but oh well.
In my time on the bus I can work on whatever book I happen to be reading at the time… I can catch-up on my pile of magazines… I can play some of my handheld video games… I can just rest and relax.
Drive time to and from work about 15 minutes
Time to and from work via bus about 20 minutes not including the walking to and from the bus stops.
Walking is good for me… sitting on my ass all day every day is not good for me. Maybe once I get the Honda back I’ll still do the OCTA thing. No harm, no foul. If I happen to be running late one day I can drive in… but I could just take the bus too.
And even simpler? With a bus pass, I could take the bus from Orangewood & Harbor the couple of blocks to the Chapman & Harbor stop… but that would take the fun out of the walking. Wouldn’t it? ^_~
Do not forget the Canucks versus the Ducks… Game 2… tonight at 7pm. For those with cable or satellite television is it on FSN West. Dish Network folks it should be 417. DirecTV subscribers it should be 652. Everyone else, you’re on your own… except for all one of you in Germany, you can watch the games apparently on NASN. Who knew that there was a sports station that is all American games in Europe? I didn’t. Everyone else can just figure out your own channels otherwise… :P
My door is open to folks to those who wish to watch the game. Guinness is on tap… hopefully will not run out.
Speaking of which… those who wish to watch any of the upcoming games at my place are more than welcome to do so… but if you are going to want Guinness, then you will need to start pitching in for a new keg. Especially if the Ducks hit the Stanley Cup… you don’t think I won’t have a keg on tap for that? If I see a Duck player hoisting the Stanley Cup I will be pulling out that keg and tapping it right then and there… creating a massive fountain of Guinness out my front window onto the street below… ^_~
that is all for now… hopefully I’ll hear from the auto shop today that it is all ready to go so I can at least take my car home this weekend. And I’ll see whomever decides to pop by this evening later on then…
