mark down your calendars in July…

there will be no OMGWTFBBQ… after several years of running this thing I think I have run out of ideas of what to do and definitely don’t have the time nor patience to do this for another year.

In the event that I change my mind it will be a much smaller scale than in previous years in which I would contact each person individually with a date and time.

in other news… I am two months nicotine free… and something like ten weeks caffeine free…

that is all…

I can bear-ly contain myself…

So yesterday was a rather eventful day in the office where one person ended up being sacked for pretty much trying to play the “I want more money or else I’m not going to work” card and lost. Whole lot of drama tied to that disaster yesterday that I’m not really going to get into here.

BUT… for those who attended the OMGWTFBBQ, there was one item that was originally planned and never arrived for one reason or another.
Well, last night I got an email that pretty much had me over the moon when I realized what it was that was now again available. Black bear… ^_^
So later this week I’ll be receiving a nice little 3.5 to 4 pound roast of black bear and a couple pounds of black bear bacon. Most definitely won’t be prepared this weekend… too many things on the schedule to do that, but will have to happen soon. I still have half of a rack of ribs that I need to figure out how to finish off. :P

In one of my last entries I made mention of pre-made characters being made available in the WoW beta… well those pre-mades disappeared within hours and were never heard from again. *cry* So I wasn’t able to get around to more of the different areas this past weekend… not as though it was that easy to do so anyway with the servers going down more often than a hooker at a suck-a-thon…

So Saturday was spent running through a zone that was several levels too high for me and watching the server drop out from under me as I was surrounded by mobs that would kill me in a heartbeat. Somehow I managed to make it through the zone (many thanks to wonky buffs from hell that made me overly powerful to 2-shot a level 76 mob) with only one death at the hands of the Scourge (oops… you mean that 78 Elite isn’t here to give me pie?). No freakin’ flight paths that I could see… but definitely a little “Desolace faction” action going on between the tribal badgers and electrical mutant lizards….
I did end up getting out of that area finally leaving only two areas “undiscovered” so I couldn’t complete that part of the achievements. And went running back to an area that so that I could start kicking ass on my fishing again (I am a fishing god!!!).

So whenever Northrend would go down I’d hope over onto my Blood Elf Death Knight… and went and got here a new hairdo. It was so cute!!! She’s got poofy pigtails now… awwww…
Anyway, I decided to portal back to Ebon Hold (the DK’s main staging area) and there was something going on… the place looked like it was being ransacked by the Scourge. Hmmm… pick-up this little quest here… go kill these Scourge things over yonder… deliver a letter to the head person in certain capital cities. Now this is where the fun comes in… you get ported in front of those capital cities (Stormwind and Ogrimmar) and you can’t cast spells… can’t get on your mount… and have to walk through the city while the city guards and residents hurl insults at you and hurl rotten fruit. Deliver some letter to the leader of that city and all is right in the world once again.
It was definitely one of the more interesting parts I’ve seen Blizzard do in this game and I loved it. I had to hop onto my Dranei DK to run that part of the quest for her too. Absolutely amazing story-driven quests… it definitely brings the DK’s into the fold in a more interesting and better-told way than *poof* “you’re Alliance/Horde!!!”

So with the beta servers wreaking havoc with my nerves… Sunday came along and sitting on my desktop around 10am PT was a notice from the EA Download Manager… Spore was ready to decrypt and install. Woohoo!!!!
Installed and have created a civilization of flying moose/bat/cow/??? creatures. So yeah… Spore is the current flavor of the week until Blizzard can stabilize the damn beta servers.

that is all for now… I’m off to cover two desks this week and assist on a third. Call me crazy (You’re Crazy!!!!!) but I hate to see others have to suffer the long hours too…

I think Cache hates me…

I bought this yesterday and it’s being delivered today.
I love you NewEgg!!!

Now I’m looking at a new camera rig… time to put the Mavica to rest (or at least pass it along to Milady to play with if she wants). I was hoping to maybe get something somewhat similar to my name but after holding the Nikon D60 I felt that it was too small for me. It’s a nice camera… really it is but the damn body felt tiny in my hands.
So instead I’m looking at the Canon EOS D40… it had a good weight to it and felt right in my hands. Part of it was the lens attached to it, but it just felt right. So now I’m going to be be pondering that one over for a short while… no need to rush it, right? Make sure I’m making the right choice…
My biggest issue with the Canon is that it take the compact flash, BUT it does have a USB 2.0 port on it that I could hook a portable hard drive to it and shoot directly to onto the hard drive.

Anyone have the Canon D40 or used the D40? Or any opinions on the matter? I’m looking at the body and lens combo plus I’ll be getting a macro lens as well…

Camera body & lens combo
Macro lens

Drop me a line if you have an opinion on this rig… I’m open to suggestions and comments. ^_^

Weekend plans are somewhat simple… flying up to the Bay Area tomorrow morning and flying back tomorrow evening. Playing WoW beta all day on Sunday.

and since it isn’t such a big secret anymore… yes, the 4th Annual OMGWTFBBQ was held last weekend. A total of thirty people in attendance… and the menu is as follows:
Berkshire Pork Sausages with Apple & Sage
Venison Sausages with Blueberries
Duck Sausages with Foie Gras
Inside-Out Burgers
Wagyu Hot Dogs
Boar Ribs with an interesting apple, onion, and jalapeno glaze (ok, that one didn’t quite work out properly)
Celeriac Puree (like mashed potatoes, but better for you)
Bacon-infused Bourbon

and that’s what I served… what other foods were brought to the gathering…
Mashed potatoes with bacon
Potato salad with bacon
Sangria
Pan-fried grubs with onions
Pan-fried fogs legs
Goat testicle & cow tongue tacos
Three-bean salad
Spushi (aka Spam sushi… shut up… it’s good!!!)

All in all I think everyone had a good time… not a whole lot of leftover food… and no incidents.
I am still in review over whether or not I am going to have the 5th Annual OMGWTFBBQ or not… but after how I felt drained and sore after this one, I’m thinking that this was the end of an era. Sure I’ll enjoy cooking the more exotic meats and whatnot, but not to the large scale that we have become used to. Maybe do more intimate gatherings where it’s a handful of people and that handful of people would be changing depending upon how I feel they would take to certain proteins.

Starting to get into final vacation mode… the Food & Wine Festival schedule was released this week so Milady and I are going through trying to plan out what we were interested in partaking in. Some definitely good things happening while there… but also some stuff that might have been interesting if it weren’t for the fact that we land the same day as those events. :P
And then there is the whole, are we gonna do the 18,000 jump or not? We were reading reviews of the jump site and from the experienced jumpers it was a horrible experience and crappy service… and while I think it would be a great place to make a jump, I’m having serious doubts because of these horror stories we were reading. So now that’s up in the air… no pun intended.

Worst case scenario? I don’t do the jump and we spend the day at one of the WDW parks instead. *shock*

that is all for now… am trying to figure out a way to get the hell out of here as quickly as possible today so I can get home to play with the new toy and uninstall all the bloatware that came with it.
Still trying to figure out if I am wanting to keep Vista on it or not… it is the ultimate version of it… will have to see how the laptop runs with WoW and Vista both…

EDIT: Okay… not quite. Found this one just for Milady today… Penguin at Edinburgh Zoo may pick up Norwegian knighthood

The Meat: Round One… FIGHT!!!

So the big portion of the meat for the OMGWTFBBQ was placed this past Monday… it arrived yesterday without any sort of warning. So grumpy apartment manager because she “had to” move it into my apartment.
Could not imagine why the bugger was so big and heavy until I opened it and saw one of the items inside. Instead of how I had previously ordered it once before in the past, this time it seems like they just took a cleaver to the animal and sent me the whole damn thing. This is going to be even MORE interesting now…
The good news? Lil’ Dude will have his own special stuff I ordered up… and if not then I’ve got me some grubbin’ food for me :P

This weekend is doing test runs on certain things… and if they do not succeed then they are going to be kaboshed from the menu. So everyone hope things go well tomorrow in the kitchen :P

Milady and I will be trying out a new restaurant that opened up at Garden Walk, here in Anaheim, tonight… Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine. It definitely sounds intriguing to us… and figured it was time to check it out. Even utilized the restaurant’s online reservation system to make our reservations. It’s pretty nice to see various places doing this now. ^_^
And I’m sure we will have something up soon afterward about our experience there…

More fun-filled excitement in the office… new hire is not going to be getting trained by me to take my accounts. Nope!!! I am keeping them and the new hire is going to be assisting with the FL account. Now this should be interesting… O_o

At least I know I can start filing all of these files again in my cabinets… it was rather annoying having all of these files scattered around my desk not really knowing what was going to happen next. *sigh*

Aside from cooking this weekend, hoping to get more time in on the WotLK beta… I am planning on rolling my third Death Knight this weekend. This one will be Horde as it will allow me to traverse Azeroth without too many issues plus I’ll have my mount already ^_^
Must get more screencaps for folks who are interested in seeing what’s up an coming. I do have some screenshots of me kicking the crap out of some seals… and no… I didn’t start it. They attacked me first… :P
And must try to work on leveling my guy up so I can start exploring beyond the starting areas ^_^

and that is all for now… I need to finish clearing all of this crap off of my desk and try to finish my day somewhat on time ^_~

First of all… those who are reading this who are not into World of Warcraft, anything of that nature will be posted after a “page jump” so as to not torture everyone or no one… what you view beyond the jump is entirely up to you.

So let’s get down to business shall we? There is an annual event I hold every year that I try to impress the taste buds of folks in attendance. Hopefully this year will be no exception. We are scaling back dramatically in regards to the amount of money I’m pouring out. Last year was the extreme of that and we all know how that ended O_o
Only one item is questionable at this point in time… but I’m hoping for the best on that. Really I am… and found out that the local butchers at the megamarts won’t help me to dress the meat :P
This year I am hoping to take the focus off of the “weird” proteins and maybe open the minds a bit to other types of foods that might look like one thing and then taste like something completely different.
For you drinkers and non-drinkers out there… I will ask that you be ready for a shot of something though… if all goes well, this will be one that folks walk away from saying that this was really good food without the whole “oh my god I just ate bull balls… and it’s penis?!?!?!”…

Once everything is complete… and the event has passed I shall post up the listing of foods served… and for those curious enough, I’ll give you recipes and/or links of where to find what I did. I do have to thank Richard from “Top Chef” this past season for lighting my fire for being the Willy Wonka of food again.
And yes… there will be one vegetarian dish served that has gotten rave reviews from the carnivores I’ve served it to. So if that says anything, I’m doing SOMETHING right… just not totally sure what though.

And there we go… the invites were sent out quite a while ago… and those coming, you know who you are. Those not attending… sorry, but i was wanting to limit the crowds this year in order to lower my costs associated with this event. As stated before, this event has shown itself to become more and more expensive with each passing year. Last year we topped out at nearly $1500… and that was what I spent. This is not including whatever donations were made… so now you can see why I’m more than happy to cut back on the costs of things. I’m thinking I’ll probably be hitting about half of that, if not under.

Work, oh were are thou work? Oh… you became a stress-filled cesspool again? I’m sorry… what? You’re dragging me in with you too? Bastards!!!!
In less than one month I have had a co-worker take over one of my accounts and in such a short period of time destroy anything and everything associated with that account. I spent the latter half of the week trying to figure out what was going on… to find out of certain receivers had had production orders issued against them… and to find out exactly what I had on-hand in terms of components and finished goods for this client. She had just a bit over three weeks to muck it up… and I’ll probably be trying to fix all of that damage for quite a while.
Anyway, she got her ass canned on Friday… a total shock to her apparently even though we all saw the writing on the wall. When I have to come in and rescue an account because of your mishandling of it, then you are not fit to stay there. I gave you all the tools needed… and I was just one office over if there were questions. But no questions were asked… and none of the tools provided to her were even used. *head, desk, repeat*

So my life has gone from somewhat calm with being part of a 3-person team handling the largest account within our company… to being torn between that account (I have an entire week’s worth of paperwork that I’m entering into reports this weekend from home) and dealing with the clusterfuck of this other account.
The good news? The head honcho has already said that they are going to hire someone else into that position. Unfortunately, I have a bad feeling that I’m going to be stuck with this client after the screw-up of the former co-worker. I have that kind of rapport I guess. When someone screws up an account so badly, I am the guy that typically gets to deal with clean-up and repair whatever relationship is left with the client.

And no… I am not paid overtime for anything I do outside or inside the office. I’m paid the same amount every week no matter how many hours I work… bastards…

and now… the part for those who aren’t gamers to tune out on… Wrath of the Lich King beta stuff…

minor amendment to yesterday’s posting and other stuff…

First the amendment: It does seem that Versus is going to be carrying the skills competition and the Young Stars game on Saturday afternoon/evening… unfortunately it is not listed as such on the NHL’s website. I happened to find out while I was watching the Penguins game yesterday.
Damn… lost in the shootout? Really? Oh well… Crosby was out of the line up for Pittsburgh and most of the pressure was on Malkin’s shoulders. He did net a three point game with two goals and an assist, but the same can be said of Washington’s Ovechkin. Ended up diving into some of the stuff on the DVR last night instead of watching the overtime period… Penguins got a point as did the Capitals, so no really excitement there anymore.

So for those interested in the skills competition and the Young Stars game… Versus at 4pm PT and the All-Star game is the next day at 3pm PT

So this morning was kind of an odd one…
I stop by the AM/PM for my daily allotment of Mtn Dew and I come across a carload of trannys just kickin’ it in the parking lot of AM/PM at 5:30am…
Then walking to the bus stop I am being passed by all of these joggers… this is the most number of joggers I have seen in one day since I started taking the bus last year. Nearly a dozen of them going by me at some point along my journey… all but two of them were female.
Not seeing anything at ACC right now that would require all of these dames to be in town. Next little thing isn’t until tomorrow and not thinking they are for Endo Pharmaceuticals. Dunno… I give up ^_^

Speaking of the ACC… dates to remember:
22 Feb – 24 Feb: avoid going outside if possible… the United Spirit Association All Star Cheer & Dance Competition is in town…
18 Apr – 20 Apr: again… avoid going outside if possible… now we have the American Showcase National Cheer & Dance Competition in town…
7 Jul – 10 Jul: why do they have to do these things here? Really… isn’t there a convention center in LA? the LA Dance Magic National Finals are in town. During that same time the Elks are in town too…
6 Sept – 7 Sept: might want to go to this one… the North American Reptile Breeders Conference… ^_~

and for next year… the week to avoid coming to Anaheim… 15 Jan – 18 Jan… NAMM…

What weekend did I say the 4th Annual OMGWTFBBQ was to be held? 26 July? I am seeing the San Diego Comic-Con again trying to one-up me by having their event the same weekend as mine. Well, fuck ‘em… I have better food anyway ^_~
Speaking of which… I starting to toy with ideas in my head already of what I’m wanting to do. Not sure on a crowd size that I’d like to cater too though… depends on how much I actually feel like doing with whatever time I have available.

So yeah… OMGWTFBBQ is slated for that weekend… might get moved to the following weekend. Depends on how things are going for me I guess… will know more in a few more months.

boring evening today for me… will be doing whatever since Milady isn’t off of work until something like 8:45pm. No idea what I’ll do… maybe go earn some gold for my characters in WoW… I really should be saving for an epic flying mount…
And other than that… my day in the office should be equally boring. Most of my clients are in snooze mode now…

ending the silence…

Filed under: Niekon Roast,OMGWTFBBQ,gaming, work crap — Niekon @ 8:02 am

So… it has been over two weeks since the third annual OMGWTFBBQ which for the most part I think was a great success with some let downs in the food department.
Most of the proteins (the meats) went over really well and the shocker that was announced at the end of the roast was the surprise dish that we just called beef tacos throughout the evening. Some dishes never managed to hit the table because there was a clusterfuck happening in my kitchen and I refused to be part of it anymore and I walked out with meats to hit the grill. But I will go into that more later on in the entry.
Kimmie and Frank flew in from Texas for the event… it was great to see them. They came the furthest for the event though there might have been one person if he had shown would have come further as is lives in Florida.
The roast was great… apparently I have a lot of friends who think well of me. Funny, I don’t of them… kidding folks. Some moments were funny… some not so funny. When a younger brother says that I’m not even worthy to wash dishes in a restaurant that bothered me a lot since I got to witness him become a complete prat in my own kitchen to the point of talking down to me like I was an underling. Sorry, but you’re a guest in my kitchen… you don’t treat me like shit especially when I paid for the fuckin’ ingredients. If you bought the stuff then you can say what you please, but you didn’t and it will not ever happen again or else you are not welcome in my kitchen ever again.

Okay… that aside (I will be broaching that subject again in a bit when I am covering some other events from the past couple of weeks)… the week following the OMGWTFBBQ was BlizzCon (a convention put on by Blizzard Entertainment) which Milady, CacheCrash, and I attended. Now that is a clusterfuck…
Cache and I figure that we might as well pick up our badges on Thursday since we don’t know what the lines will be like on Friday morning. How wrong we were. I get there and Cache is already in a line that he says is for us. Wrong… we are in the wrong line as are most of the people in the area. Part of the problem was that there was an information kiosk and a giant pillar that had two or three lines trying to maneuver around them. I was one of those lines. After an hour and moving inside the doors but not further I said enough was enough. BlizzCon was officially off to a bad start for me. There was one person from the Anaheim Convention Center who was stating that lines were alphabetical, but when you had to split lines because there were too many people who’s last name starts with “S” you need to know which line those folks are supposed to get into. She knew nothing and no Blizzard people were trying to correct the lines. There were banisters to separate the lines… in the final five feet of the line. Not smart. So Cache and I bailed and came home for a bit before heading to The Lost Bar for a WoWInsider meet-up. On the way we thought we’d cruise the ACC to check out the lines. No one was there. Sweet!!!! We park at one of the hotel parking lots and walk over to the ACC and pick up our badges and bag o’ stuff then off to The Lost Bar for alcohol and World of Warcraft people. While there I discovered that being a level 70 Druid who is spec’d as Balance (or Boomkin as we like to call it) it a rarity. Even more rare? The fact that I have been spec’d Boomkin since I started playing the character back in February ’06. And then Milady showed up having just gotten off of work… she was tired… so we left and went home for a long day ahead for the three of us.
But before we get into BlizzCon more… the “bag o’ stuff”: one plastic card that contained a Murloc Suit code and a beta key for a yet to be announced game, one World of Warcraft t-shirt (XL), one set of BlizzCon coasters, one “starter kit” for the WoW Trading Card Game, one bookmark that was the beginning of a quest at the Brady Games booth, some buttons, a lot of crap advertisements, and a post card for a map and program to be picked up the next day. Murloc Suit is funny looking… but cool. I need to get photos of my character in it at some point for shits n’ giggles. I did run my character from the furthest point south in Easter Kingdom and up to Ironforge which is about halfway up the map. No mount… no flying… all running and one tram ride from Stormwind to Ironforge.

Friday morning comes along… we have our printed out schedule… and are making plans. Up to the ACC we all walk and see a cluster of people all congregating near Hall A… it is past 9am… the doors should be open. Nope… not yet. Finally the doors open and we allow for people to get in before attempting to make our way into the convention area. We walk into the hall into darkness. Not a great thing for those who had been outside the hall where it was bright and sunny. Milady is thrown off by this almost immediately and I don’t blame her.
To our right is this clusterfuck of a line for Blizzard merchandise. People have order forms in hand but no one can seem to be able to locate someone who is handing them out. Fuck it… let’s walk around before the opening ceremony.
We see another line… this one for the maps and programs. Another clusterfuck of a mess. And yet another Blizzard merchandise line in Hall B that isn’t nearly as insane as the one in Hall A but close to it and at least that one is manned by a Blizzard employee who is handing out the damn order forms. We stay in that line for a short while and decide that it’s not going to get better so we are better off trying to get our programs and maps. By the time we get there the line seems to have disappeared on one side so we go for that side. Got a map, a program, and an hearthstone keychain. Where was my hearthstone last night when I wanted to actually be drinking at the Hearthstone Lounge? Bastards…
Now we are off to wander some more… we hit the Brady Games booth to begin the quest and got another bookmark. Then something about opening ceremonies. Cache had disappeared quite a while ago so I was shocked to actually find him already sitting and a couple of seats by him available. Sweet… so we get the ceremonies underway… Starcraft II… no big surprise… WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King… no big surprise considering a section of Hall B has these huge ass banners announcing it. SURPRISE!!!! This is the next expansion. Yeah, and the fact that it was pretty much spoiled a few days prior online was people were digging into the various expansion rumors. It will be interesting though as we are now going back into Azeroth for leveling which will most likely empty out Outlands. Level cap will be raised to 80… talent trees will be revamped again… a hero class, Death Knight… and apparently the first time we’ll be able to have flying mounts in Azeroth.

Now it was time to walk around some more before lunch… and a couple of panel discussions. Lunch was done at the Hilton at Cafe Oasis. Milady and I shared a bottle of wine with our meal… and enjoyed ourselves relaxing with our meal. *sigh* It was nice… ^_^
Back the mad rush of BlizzCon… a couple of panels and then we headed home for a bit to rest and relax before Milady and I headed back up for some more stuff that was too overcrowded for us to deal with so instead we walked around and saw that we could get a sample try of the trading card game (she kicked my ass) and then headed home for the evening/night.

Saturday comes… and we have a slightly delayed get-up-and-go mentality. Nothing overly major taking place until 12noon. A panel about the Warcraft movie being done by Legendary Pictures apparently planned to release in 2009. Should be interesting once they finally get the script nailed down.
then it was off to lunch again for Milady and I… this time we went to the Marriott’s Cafe Del Sol which we had never been to before and actually had a good experience there. Good choices on their menu… and they also had a lunch buffet too. I stuck to the menu while Milady tried the buffet. Another relaxing meal… with no big rush to be anywhere. Lunch was over… and wee bring Cache back a little something to munch on… beer-battered onion rings with a chipotle ranch dipping sauce. And then we are at our next panel… and then time to kill for Milady and I so we had to the bar at the Hilton for some drinks before venturing back into the convention area for the closing event… a performance by Video Games Live (an orchestra) and some other crap. What a treat I was in for on that one. We were informed that seating was limited… doors opened at 6:30… concert started at 7:00. Anyone seeing the problem here yet?
We find Cache who is in line already… this line starts from the front gates of the ACC arena folds into Hall A down towards the main stage set up there… curves back up the side of the panel discussion seating op to where the Blizzard merchandise is being sold turns along the back of the seating for the panel… then takes a turn back towards the panel stage and wraps around again to begin a line going back up towards the back of the hall towards Hall B. There are a lot of people still wandering the show floor and sitting in on the panel discussions. There is no way logistically that they can seat all of these people in thirty minutes or less. I am more than pissed at this moment. We have each paid out $100 for this convention with the promise of a concert performance by Video Games Live. It was not until the opening ceremony that they announce there will be limited seating for the concert. Had I known this I would not have put some much speculation into the concert and possibly not have attended BlizzCon ’07.
I have now ranted to Cache in front of a bunch of people that I have pretty much insulted directly to their faces calling them the ultimate losers who wank off to their female night elf characters on a daily basis. I have yet to drop my letter of displeasure about the clusterfuck of various aspects of BlizzCon but it will be dropped to the president of Blizzard which will most likely go unread but at least I can state that I voiced my displeasure.

This weekend we were supposed to go deep sea fishing with Clinton… but that got nixed as I am still recovering from the OMGWTFBBQ financially. But he came by earlier this week to use my stand mixer to make three different buttercreams for class. In what turned out to be nothing major turned into a pain in my ass for the days that followed and culminated on Friday and yesterday while Milady and I sweated and worked our asses off trying to clean my kitchen of the recent ant invasion. And where were they all going? My stand mixer that was allegedly completely cleaned. We pulled the bowl off and found remnants of buttercream on the bowl and on the mixer. FUCK!!! I am pissed now… the kitchen cabinets are cleared out… and I am now scrubbing all of the cabinets with Comet and water… and while cleaning I decide to scrub the pipes for my kitchen sink too… and somehow knock off enough rust on the bottom of the kitchen sink trap to open up a hole that was draining water into the cabinet. FUCK!!! Shut off the water… grab something to catch the dripping water… pull off the trap and see what we can get done quickly. Sally and I head to the plumbing store… it’s closed so we go to Home Depot instead hoping to find something. Got something about right but instead of metal it’s PVC. Turns out it’s 1/4″ off and would not fit properly. So we had to wait until Saturday to get it replaced.
Saturday comes… we’re out the door before 9am… we find exactly what we needed at the plumbing store. And I get home… install it… and it’s been perfect. Now Milady and I can work on the kitchen the rest of the way. But wait… there are some ants running around on my computer desk. Time to step this up now… and we began a cleaning spree that started from my front door and continued along the walls cleaning everywhere. Computer desk emptied and completely cleaned… Guinness tap emptied and completely cleaned… small bookshelf half emptied and cleaned. All the floor boards were cleaned… carpets that are typically unreachable were vacuumed.
Kitchen finally got to get cleaned a lot more… refrigerator pulled out… microwave moved… stove pulled out. Floors and walls completely cleaned. Fridge and stove cleaned. Kitchen floor mopped after everything was back in place. And now we are in the process of washing all of the stuff in the kitchen to be placed back into cleaned drawers… rubber lining to be placed into the lower cabinets for the pots and pans. Front room is slowly coming together again. Half of it has been completely cleaned and vacuumed. Other half is occupied by a lot of crap that is in the process of being put away. Then I will be done… and will be able to relax for the rest of the day hopefully.

Something we have found while we were cleaning… two cookie sheets and cooling racks in the oven still uncleaned from two weeks prior. This held the roasted vegetables and was tossed back into the oven by Clinton without ever being cleaned. Two weeks later… and they are now in the trash. The expense of the OMGWTFBBQ continues to grow in the weeks following this event. I am not pleased… I have found risotto in places I should not find dried risotto. It was splattered on bottles of alcohol. Milady has managed to step on a piece of dried shallot that cut into the bottom of her foot.

And then there has been work. From the time of the OMGWTFBBQ to this week it has been pure hell for me. I had a ConAgra order for 587 pallets of Wesson oil that had to be made up. Last Friday (the day I’m at BlizzCon) they ran out of tray bodies… our other facility in Memphis didn’t send out enough to me to cover the entire order. And we were also having issues with one of the three flavors of oil which were being received with a lot of leakers. So the oil plant was trying to send out replacements as quickly as possible but was having issues since they too were in Memphis and we are in Garden Grove.
And then I have another client, DaVinci Pharmaceuticals, that we are making these little things for them… then turning these packs into a 3-pack via shrinkwrap… and packing four 3-packs into a case. Well all was going well for the first part of the run since there were 100 of these and 100 of that that. The issue came up when I got the next batch of orders that called for some of these and some of those. No way Production could do this… so they just produced without placing a shipping label on the cartons. Shipping would have to apply these labels later on… which turned into an ordeal of it’s own. I didn’t leave work that day until 6:15pm… just fifteen minutes shy of working a 12-hour day.
But now that the ConAgra orders have been filled and shipped my desk is a lot calmer. DaVinci is somewhat stressful still but not so much now that we are trying to get control of the client in terms of these fulfillment orders. And my other clients are nothing overly major right now. But I am having to train a new person to basically take as many of my clients as possible since I will become the main back-up for the Frito-Lay account in Garden Grove. Oh joy…

and that is about all for now… next Saturday Milady and I are flying up to the Bay area for the day for some sort of family event. Not staying too long… but will be coming home the same day. We are still trying to secure passage from here to the Long Beach airport in the morning and back from the airport that night. The neighbor downstairs said he would take us but he’s about as reliable as knowing that I can’t trust anyone else to clean my kitchen equipment properly. But we shall see… I might be looking for an alternative.

Oh yeah… you dirty rotten bastards!!! You killed my keg of Guinness in near record time… I had it delivered on the 26th of July. It died on the 31st. I have had to resort to drinking other beers… wines… and harder alcohols until last night when we could afford getting another keg delivered. :P

So now I am off to finish my cleaning process so I can try and relax this afternoon when it’s the hottest.

4th Annual OMGWTFBBQ: Fucking with Food – 26 July 2008

5th Annual OMGWTFBBQ: The End of an Era – 25 July 2009

I do not want people complaining prior to these events that something else was already scheduled for that weekend (ComicCon anyone?)… understood?
I only state this because I one person who originally PM’d me to say sure… I’ll come again. I sent out the invites how long ago? Almost two fuckin’ months ago? And I just got the decline a week before hand. Yeah… not pleased. Dates have been known for months and I even made mention of ComicCon several times…

Fuck it…
And I will explain the titles of the above events on Saturday.

Oh yeah… big rule for safety purposes: NO ONE IN THE KITCHEN WHEN THE DEEP FRYER IS PLUGGED IN EXCEPT FOR THOSE DOING THE DEEP FRYING!!!

OMGWTFBBQ Top Chef…

So I got the call this morning from the place I had ordered the meat from… one of the items I ordered is out for at least two months and another item they are trying to find another source for. SHIT!!!!

Quick call goes out to ChefHalfblood or whatever his name is… HalfBloodChef it seems… so he’s coming down this evening for us to go over everything again and see what we might be able to substitute for at least one of the items.

I’m still not going to say what the items were that I am now having to substitute… but we are working on solutions and hoping that we can still pull off a great OMGWTFBBQ with or without this one or two items. Just tossing around the menu options a bit here and there… trying not to bring in too many of the old meats from past years in again. And trying to steer away from just burgers and sausages… we really want to blow you away from a gastronomical point and I think we can do it.

A little over one week to go and I am pulling into stress mode. I’ve had a bit over $100 in donations… which was a good help thus far since the meat that was ordered was in the $500 range. We are pulling together some non-food items already… and will be spending this weekend prepping the kitchen and front room for two and a half days of pure insanity. Hopefully the camera will be up for the challenge of documenting our journey… from start to finish.
Then Thursday is basic prep work… get fresh groceries needed for the next couple of days… and work on shit we can do a couple of days in advance. Meat should be delivered that day… and will be scheduling the keg for delivery that day as well. Must drink and cook… :P
Friday is where we will begin the fun part of the process which we will begin preparing anything that can be done a day ahead of time… Friday evening will be enlisting the help of some folks to help out on a top secret project. WrathGlory… CacheCrash… Milady… ShortyVonChickenPants… HalfBloodChef… me…
I think those are enough hands involved on this one for what we are needing to do.

Saturday… the day of… the final day for anything to go wrong to happen because once it starts there is no stopping us. Try to clear up the front room of the final clutter… clean front room… bathroom… start pulling out tables and chairs… hosing down chairs… wiping down tables…
Prep computer for long haul to lower area and protect it from sunlight. Hook up speaker system. Ensure things are working smoothly. Hmmm… where to draw the power from? Maybe move plug for tap elsewhere… and await projector to arrive later in the day. Electrical tape… cannot forget the electrical tape to help tape up cords that might be connected.
Make sure we have some music… selected by me of course because this is something that I want to have fun with ^_~
And of course the final day for cooking and grilling and whatever else we are doing. I do know that one of th desserts will be an interesting one since we cannot serve everyone at the same time… and not quite sure where in the hell we’re going to be making it (inside the apartment I am going to assume)…

Timeline for Saturday:
3pm: event starts… show up whenever though
5pm or 5:30pm: grilling starts
somewhere between 7pm and 8:30pm: I get roasted apparently
around 8:30pm: it is time for the videos for a bit
after the videos: who the fuck knows…

some folks have been asked not to broach certain subjects when roasting me. If you have any concerns on a certain topic… please contact either myself or Milady and we’ll let you know. Seriously… some stuff is amongst certain friends and not everyone needs to know EVERYTHING about me ^_~

that is all from me for now… so until next week, enjoy… you probably won’t hear from me until after everything takes place.

can I just work from home?

I think it’s safer that way… really I do. The OCTA strike is really bringing out the scary drivers now… even apartment manager got a taste of it yesterday coming from picking up Milady yesterday evening. Harbor was packed full of cars… more so than usual…

Some examples I’ve seen lately:
driving home yesterday some asshole in a truck that is making a left turn is yelling at a car going through the intersection to get out of his way… O_o
Excuse me? I could have sworn the people going straight have the right-of-way when they have the green… and not the asshole making the left turn…

going to work this morning there is an El Camino a couple of vehicles ahead of me at West. Going through the dips wasn’t an issue… but then Orangewood opened into two lanes and that is where things got interesting. SUV that was behind it is now beside it… El Camino is in the left lane… and then drifts into the right lane and is straddling both lanes. I’m backing off at this point. El Camino decides the left lane is the lane he wants… and then wanders back into the right lane this time going entirely into the right lane. Backing off even more…
Thank goodness for stop sign. He stops… then goes… and while in the right lane is wandering further and further to the right… crap I’m about to witness this asshole hit a parked car right before my turn into the Circle K… bastard. SWERVE!!!! Barely misses sideswiping the car. At this point in time I feel it is MUCH safer to take my time at Circle K… put as much distance between myself and that driver.
Completely expected to see him crashed into something on my trip along Orangewood… no El Camino… so must have made it where ever in one piece thus far.

and having driven the same route for the past couple of years I have gotten to know the lights rather well. But I swear there are people who see a green light ahead and think they can make it if they drive much faster. We’re talking 50+ down a 35 zone. These are the same assholes who think that riding my bumper will make me go faster. Good luch with that one buddy… it will only make me slow down further… :P

Or how about those folks who think it is light enough out to not turn on their headlights? Oh… it’s 6am… it’s overcast… everything is that marvelous shade of grey. Fuck the headlights!!! No one needs to see me anyway. Excuse me? I think not…
I turn them on in the morning and in the evening when I am going home if it is after a certain time of day. The sun is to my back… and low enough (anytime after 5pm for me)… the headlights are on.

And then we have the pedestrians. For the most part they are good pedestrians. But then we have those marvelous wonders who think that pushing the crosswalk button is of no benefit to them. Tell that to the line of cars waiting to make a left turn while you are waddling your fat ass across the street and maybe one car is able to make the turn? Push the damn button already…
What bothers me even more are the people that are standing there for a couple of minutes right next to the damn thing and don’t press the button. Must not touch the button… it could give me rabies… or shock me… or even change that red man up there into a white man… NO!!!!! I don’t want to be a white man!!!! I don’t want to be the oppressor…
Hmmm? Oppressing people? I think I like that… mwahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! I shall oppress people by making them have to wait through another traffic signal cycle by not pressing the walk button… I am a genius… I am an evil genius… ^_^
(apparently and evil genius with a love for anime)

awww… Lotion Girl was confused why when she flipped on her screen there was nothing that came on. Because I fuckin’ shut down her system last night when I left. It seems she thinks that she is not part of the rules about shutting down or completely logging out of our systems when leaving. She is leaving apps open on her screen… and even the online app for a client wide open. It would not be hard for some asshole to come into these offices and simply turn on her screen and screw things up royally.
But it takes so much time… wahh!!!! Don’t give a fuck. Your computer is already clamped down on not allowing you to install certain things… set-up by me personally in her first week here… and when it gets all fucked up I am not going to be the one to fix it because you’re a fuckin’ moron who can’t operate a computer properly.

and this is it… the final week to say yeah or nay… I am ordering up the stuff I need to order up this weekend. Any change-ups to my numbers will make me cranky because this is a planned out menu.

And folks planning on roasting me… all two of you it seems… reminder to get hold of Milady. I have given you her email address many times… and even set up a special gmail account for this event so you could reach either her or myself easily.

Note to co-chef… come down this weekend… we need to finalize things ASAP so I can do up this ordering.
