the aftermath… from my perspective…

Filed under: New Teeth — Niekon @ 9:00 pm

So here I am a couple of days after getting my mouth torn apart by a dentist… drinking Ensure… and having one hell of a time trying to speak…

So here is what I have learned thus far:
1) Ensure is nasty… I really hate the stuff a lot. If you tell me something is supposed to be chocolaty… don’t lie to me and make it actually taste like mud. Less than thrilled by it. BTW: what in the hell do I need copper in my diet for? Am I crapping out pennies for a living now?

2) water is nice… but tea is much better since it has a fuckin’ taste to it. I have lived on pretty much nothing but water for a beverage since 8am on Saturday… this afternoon I changed up to tea to get some flavor going in my mouth that isn’t Ensure.

3) I really want a smoke and a drink… waiting for the all clear from the dentist in the morning about these two. Obviously not over-doing it… but at least be able to every so often without fucking shit up…

4) upper plate somewhat easy to remove. Lower plate hurts like a bitch to remove and put back in… why? Because it is taking up a lot more swelling than the upper one did. So the damn things are tighter than all hell and feel like I’m trying to cut into my fuckin’ gums when putting them in.

5) I look like a freak when I don’t have either plates in my mouth. And it’s not a pretty site either. CacheCrash got a few photos of my mouth without the plates in them… and I’m pretty damn sure they will be ugly as all hell when I pull them off of the camera at some point.
Though I look a lot better with them in… just still getting used to them being in. And waiting to not be in constant pain so I can being the process of learning to eat again. Just eating a small bit of bread today hurt and was a chore… O_o

6) speaking of eating… that is just one of many things for me to re-learn. Learn to speak again… eat again… drink again… et cetera. Anything that requires the use of my mouth, it’s gonna be learned again. *sigh*

7) wearing a hockey jersey… and having a bloody mouth is a sure sign that people will assume only one thing. Waiting for my meds on Saturday afternoon… bloody mouth… towel… couple thinks the worst. I assure them in my rather muffled speech that it was from a dental procedure and nothing more than that. Guess hockey seems to have it’s violent side ^_~

well that is all for now. Ended up going to Disneyland Resort today for a few hours… went on a few attractions before leaving before 2pm. Went on what I wanted to go on… and had only one Vicodin the entire time I was there. Apparently a lot of activity causes more pain in my mouth… think it’s the increased bloodflow or something… but managed to get home and deal with shit here a bit better than I would have in the middle of a Disney park. Here I can curse and scream… where there I’d be looked at oddly while being escorted off property for doing the same thing ^_!

The Aftermath… Thus Far…

Filed under: New Teeth — Milady @ 11:45 am

So the apparently the procedure only took a little over 3 hours. At 11:25 I received a call saying that the body was ready to be picked up. So Matt and I went down there, picked up the patient and headed over to Target to get his prescription filled. I suppose I should write up what my initial reaction was and here it is. Honestly with the face swelling and the new teeth he reminded me of a guy wearing those fake hill billy teeth. Yeah, not the best impression but then again what would you expect after having that much trauma to the mouth?

Matt ended up buying Chris a towel we were waiting for the prescription to be filled because when Chris spoke, he would spit out blood bits since he had no control over his face due to the anasthetic. I called him a walking biohazard and played interpreter. We had enough time to kill to buy a movie (Casino Royale), the second season of “Wild Wild West” and a video game (SSX Blur). We also bought some Ensure supplemental drinks because the dentist said it would be good for him during the healing process. Need to make sure he stays healthy, you know?

So here we sit in the comfort of home while the bloody one holds ice packs to his face to keep the swelling down as he waits until the anathesia wears off enough to warrant him taking some pills. Too bad the dentist didn’t tell him not to drink 24 hours before the surgery. Otherwise the anathesia would’ve kept him numb for 24 hours. But no, he wasn’t told and of course he drank last night at the game.

Speaking of drinking, there will be no drinking for him for the week and possibly longer depending on the healing process goes. There will be no smoking for at least the next 5 days if not more as well. I can see that he will be a barrel of fun in that coming time. However, the Vicadin prescribed will help a lot too.

Oh and there is to be no unnecessary talking either. Well I’m thinking at least the first day or two. It could be detrimental to the healing process. Pad and paper for that man!

I think that is it for now. More later. Maybe. We shall see.

Just Another Day

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks,New Teeth — Niekon @ 2:44 pm

not going to post up much for today… we all should know what is about to transpire tomorrow morning for me… and while I considered doing one last shindig before the whole procedure, I also knew that the Ducks were playing tonight… at home. Always a chance to get tickets to go to the game ^_~
Well… was not disappointed. Got two tickets for tonight’s game and working on obtaining a third from a co-worker who got the other two tickets. Cache is coming down today and I’d for him to see an actual game… and I’d rather not leave Milady home alone since I also have the Fan Loyalty Card that gives us 10% off at the Ducks Team Store… Milady likes shopping there ;_;

So no… no gathering this evening. It’s go home… drink a bit… go to the game… drink some more… go home… drink one last pint… then sleep… wake up… get ready… maybe eat breakfast… then be to the dental office a bit before 8am for several hours of torture. O_o

And then Sunday is recovery day… along with Monday if needed. Otherwise I’m going to Disneyland. Damn it… I wanna go before I’m blacked out for the next century :P

okie… off to finish up whatever on my desk. Then gonna head home for the 3-day weekend (okay, 3-day weekend for me with the procedure taking place tomorrow)…

trapped in a box…

Filed under: work crap — Niekon @ 8:16 am

So I’m not too sure how many folks heard about this story that hit the AP newswire on Friday after it got picked up a day after the Colorado Springs Gazette printed up the piece…
The story goes that some kid in Monument, Colorado purchased a bag of KC Masterpiece Barbecue Lays from the school cafeteria. Upon opening his bag of chips he discovered a dead mouse within the bag of chips.
Frito-Lay came in… took the bag of chips and mouse back to their headquarters to do their own investigation almost immediately after being notified of this incursion within their product. And came back with a verdict earlier this week… not their fault.

So here I sit… surrounded by boxes and boxes of Frito-Lay product. And several of us here have discussed this amongst ourselves… and are pretty damn sure these findings are pretty much bullshit.
a) in the story that was going around last week… the mouse found within the bag was flattened. No way a mouse dead for a couple of days would be flattened in typical handling by hand.

b) a mouse can climb into a chew hole the size of a pencil… but the material that the Frito-Lay bags are made of would have split open even further when something slightly larger tried to pass through that hole.

c) speaking of the chew hole… should there not have been some sort of notice of smaller chips/crumbs coming out of the hole? Are you telling me that a bag of Frito-Lay chips has no broken chips and crumbs in the bag? Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

I’m sorry, but this is a PR move by Frito-Lay just trying to cover their ass in any way possible. They don’t want people to think that they have any sort of issues when it comes to possible contamination within their facilities. This is a company that will pay-off someone whom might be at fault in a traffic collision just to forget that anything happened.
So could Frito-Lay have paid off the school and this kid to “forget” anything happened? Possibly. It would fit the current situation that the school district is out there defending their health standards and practices… but not much is coming for the school or the kid and his family. All I’m hearing is a lot of Frito-Lay PR folks spouting crap… and unless an independent investigation is performed outside of a Frito-Lay facility away from PR folks trying to spin this to deflect any sort of blame from themselves this crap is going to continue to happen time and time again.
So you might take some heat for the short-term… but guess what? I’d rather face a short-term crisis now than something that could be much worse further down the road that could ultimately reveal some sort of long-term problem that was just being swept under the carpet, per se.

Frito-Lay is a large company with plants all across the country. Do you seriously think that nothing ever happens there aside from the making of chips? Shit is going to happen… just don’t cover it up with bold-faced lies. Admit mistakes happened and that steps are being taken to prevent another mistake like that from occurring again. It’s simple and yet people are afraid to face the music… and when their bluff is called then finger-pointing begins.

Here’s another incident that took place last week at a Frito-Lay plant…
Last Friday there was a fire on one of the production lines in their Beloit, Wisconsin facility. A fire broke out that evening on one of the conveyor belts and was contained in about forty-five minutes (seriously? Only forty-five minutes?) with the help of firefighters from thirteen surrounding communities.
Hold the phone!!! Thirteen surrounding communities in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois… I’m no expert on the area but I’ve been through some of the areas of southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois and there are no thirteen surrounding communities that are close enough together to get there quick enough to assist in dousing a fire in forty-five minutes from the time of the initial call. Can I please call bullshit on this one?

Anyway… back to the fire. Frito-Lay released their findings Monday/Tuesday about the cause of the fire and then stated “production wasn’t affected by the fire”. Can we all say this one together please? Bullshit!
Monday morning Beloit facility was notifying our facility in the area that several truckloads of a particular flavor of chip would not be arriving from them and they were trying to get assistance from the Frankfort, Indiana facility to send a few truckloads out to support Beloit.

Ahhh… the lies of corporations in order to make it sound like all is good in the world of junk food. Why can’t there be such a rose-colored world everywhere else? Why must we suffer through depressing news about death and war and disease when all we have to do is follow the Frito-Lay mantra of “nothing wrong here… all is perfect”? Maybe I should just not give a fuck anymore… and just remain neutral on everything…. a “nothing can phase me” kind of attitude. Yeah right, if I did that then I’d have no reason for writing…

seriously… I’m looking for a copy of this trailer that is much larger… and isn’t tied directly to Disney’s site. No offense Disney, but I’m a modern pirate and would love to own this trailer within my own personal 1′s and 0′s… :P

I have a copy of the 720 HD version of this trailer if folks are interested. It’s 133MB in size… freakin’ huge but well worth watching on a flatscreen ^_^

the final countdown…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks,Hockey,Me!!!,New Teeth — Niekon @ 10:22 am

The last week of having my own teeth within my mouth… this is it. After this week I will be toofwess… but I will be able to perform practical jokes with my new teeth ^_~
Also… for me the last of the alcohol for a while as well as smoking. And eating foods that require me to chew (hello applesauce!!!). I think I’ll miss the drinking the most :P
CacheCrash will be coming over this weekend to assist Milady with any errands that might need to be ran while I’m screaming in pain… hoping that the pain isn’t going to be too bad and that the pharmacy will be open on Saturday afternoon for whatever painkillers I am prescribed.
Monday is my day off from work for recovery… just in case I’m still in pain. Milady also has that day off along with Sunday and Cache is staying until Monday.
And if I am feeling somewhat better by then we are going to head into DLR for the day… at least until I am in extreme pain. I want to ride Space Mountain and California Screamin’ with the new soundtracks. Nothing else that really jumps out for me there right now. So those are my two goals. Anything else is just additional fluff…

And before I continue… I must give out my humblest apologies to my family. I missed not one, not two but three birthdays this month. I am a bad person… deserve to be flogged and drowned. My apologies… Milady has been notified for actual birth dates and should have them jotted down in some sort of calendar now.
Cam: I owe you dinner… or lots of drinks next time you are out
Cache: you got your’s already
Mum: dinner at some point…

So a few things…
A) The Ducks kicked ass on Friday night against Chicago and then sucked ass last night against Los Angeles. Seriously… Anaheim, either you are going to give 100% all the time or not at all. These games mean everything right now. If you want home ice for the first two rounds then you better play as hard as you can every minute of the game in every game. These games are not just going to be handed to you and those who don’t even pay much attention to hockey realized that you guys sucked last night (co-worker was at the game).
You have nine games left in the season before going into Round 1 of the playoffs… six of those nine are back-to-back games. And two of the nine are home games. So they have to win on the road… as much as possible against some teams that are fighting for that top-seed along with Anaheim.
One team that I hope Anaheim is able to finally get a win or two or three from is Columbus. For some reason this season we have sucked whenever we played them and just not given it our all.

B) thanks to those who came by this weekend to partake in corned beef and Guinness… I have leftover corned beef but not so much that I’m going to hate it before the end of the week. Good conversations… good company… good all around. Just wish I had actually eaten something that day O_o

C) World of Warcraft update… my main character hit 68 over the weekend and I got my flying form and immediately hit the Outlands flying around to different places. I think I gained something like 15% of my experience points thus far just discovering areas. Wonder if I can gain a level just with exploration ^_~
But yeah… kicking ass and having fun. Getting Milady’s rogue closer to 58 so that we can take her into the Outlands to skill up her alchemy. Need stuff from her in order to skill up my leatherworking the rest of the way. And I guess Cache wants stuff from her too…

and in weekly tradition from the past few weeks… I present to you the playoff picture…
Again the information listed below is from James Mirtle’s blog and was updated last night.

Western Conference (95 points)
1. Nashville – Guaranteed as of Mar. 8
2. Detroit – Guaranteed as of Mar. 9
3. Anaheim – Guaranteed as of Mar. 11
4. Vancouver – 1-8-1
5. San Jose – 1-7-1
6. Dallas – 2-8-0
7. Minnesota – 2-7-0
8. Calgary – 5-4-1
9. Colorado – 7-2-1
10. St. Louis – Eliminated (max 94)
11. Edmonton – Eliminated (max 87)
12. Chicago – Eliminated (max 85)
13. Columbus – Eliminated (max 83)
14. Los Angeles – Eliminated (max 82)
15. Phoenix – Eliminated (max 80)

Eastern Conference (92 points)
1. Buffalo – Guaranteed as of Mar. 3
2. New Jersey – Guaranteed as of Mar. 15
3. Ottawa – Guaranteed as of Mar. 18
4. Pittsburgh – Guaranteed as of Mar. 18
5. Atlanta – 2-6-0
6. Tampa Bay – 5-4-0
7. N.Y. Islanders – 7-4-0
8. N.Y. Rangers – 6-3-1
9. Carolina – 6-3-0
10. Toronto – 7-3-0
11. Montreal – 7-2-0
12. Boston – 9-1-1
13. Florida – 9-0-1
14. Washington – Eliminated (max 83)
15. Philadelphia – Eliminated (max 71)

Next to go down? Florida… followed by Boston this week I think. Colorado might hold out for another week but beyond that they are done for the season as is Montreal. The big question in the Eastern Conference is who is going to secure those last few slots? Is Carolina going to make it into the playoffs?
In the Western Conference it’s more about who is actually going to secure the top slots for the three different divisions… in the Central Division will it be Detroit or Nashville on top? In the Northwest Division will it be Vancouver or Minnesota? And in the Pacific Division… that’s all up to Anaheim maintaining their six point lead over San Jose and seven point lead over Dallas. If Anaheim gives them any chances they will likely get knocked off of their perch at the top of the Pacific. Hell, Anaheim is fighting for the #1 slot of the Western Conference at the same time. Three teams are sitting within a couple points of each other for that #1 slot in the West.

that is all for now… Penguins game tonight against the Rangers… should be interesting as a win by Pittsburgh would tie them with New Jersey for the #1 slot in their division. A win by New York puts them up in the #7 slot for the conference and a couple of points further from the three teams sitting the in slots just below them.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Workplace…

Filed under: work crap — Niekon @ 5:50 am

There is a 4-way stop at the intersection of Orangewood Avenue and Palmwood Drive in Garden Grove. Drivers who are on Orangewood tend to roll the stop sign or just ignore it. Every once in a while you will see a member of the Garden Grove police staked up up a bit near the northern part of Palmwood in order to catch those who choose not to fully stop. On rare occasion will one find a member of the GGPD sitting on the south end… and even more rarely will they be sitting there at 6:10am

Sure enough… there was the silhouette as all of the lights were off… not even seeing any internal lighting that might have been cast into the vehicle. Just sitting there. I complete my stop as I always do. Car coming up behind me does not look like the patient type.
I proceed across the intersection to my ultimate destination… I’m watching the vehicle behind me to see if they’re going to roll the stop. And sure enough… here they comes… hot to trot. But wait… seems they forgot something. A complete stop at the intersection. Police vehicle roared to life… lights flashing… and they’re busted.

So whatever this person was in a rush for… they are going to be even later and more impatient now to reach their ultimate destination. And a word of warning to folks… don’t fuck around with these rolling stops… seriously. You’ll get a ticket and then you’ll be cranky. Full stop = feeling that slight whip as the car has come to a complete stop. Cops are looking for that slight movement and if they can’t see that then they are looking at your wheels. It doesn’t take a genius to realize when someone is rolling a stop.

But that is my funny for the day… have fun today…
Tomorrow is the one day I am supposed to drink a lot… Guinness and corned beef are the menu all day tomorrow… 2pm -10pm… my place. Bring other food and an appetite if you are so inclined. Don’t know if the Guinness Stew will be making an appearance as I have not heard from downstairs neighbor about that since last weekend.

I win…

Filed under: Random Stories, work crap — Niekon @ 5:26 pm

Yeah… not really, but I thought it was definitely an interesting end to a long day for me yesterday.

Work: have been playing IT Guy for the past couple of days as I realize that a couple of the computers in the office have not had any of the Windows updates in who knows how long. The one system I worked on didn’t even have SP2 installed… so that was downloaded and installed overnight. Then there were over seventy updates since the release of SP2 that had to be downloaded and installed.
Another computer to get tackled in the coming days as it seems to be locked down tighter than a chastity belt on prom night. Thankfully I have admin access to the damn thing to update everything. Guy can’t even adjust his clock… that is sad.

Then of course there is everything else. Gal who handles the Frito-Lay account is out of the office this week on vacation. So I am to assist with the morning paperwork… and bills of lading if needed. Needless to say I’ve been doing both no matter what. Thankfully my accounts have been silent this week.
I’m also getting dragged into an interesting situation. Seems there are vermin feces being found within the boxes of chips. Not a lot… one here… one there… but enough to have people worried. So I spent part of today going through about a dozen cases of chips looking for any signs of infestation. Found nothing… no feces… no chew marks… but the thing that struck me was that when we would open a box one would be hit with a strong ammonia-like smell which led me to believe that there was an infestation. But after going through the boxes… bag by bag… and smelling each bag I found nothing. The conclusion seems that this isn’t an infestation within the warehouse but this stuff could be coming in with the pallets and falling into the boxes below when the pallets are double-stacked. I made my suggestion of how to see if this was still happening, but it seems that it’s “too much work”… placing a plywood board on the top of the bottom pallet to prevent anything from dropping from above. Too much work… meh…

But in the end, I’m pretty much bumping my name up the shit list of the current QC manager because he is aware that I’m questioning his lack of being an actual QC manager rather than a snitching spy for the boss. No loss for me… he’ll be seeing what I can do if I get the right motivation and time to deal with everything. Hmmm… Fluidmaster rubbed off on me in a good way I guess ^_~

But this is about yesterday afternoon when I came home. I drove by the driveway that I typically pull out of and notice a car parked in my carport. Hmmm… odd. It’s not the apartment manager’s car… and Milady didn’t tell me that she was having guests over. I park in back… and walk over to the vehicle. Tinted windows… so I go to look in the passenger-side window to be greeted to an ass wearing a thong and not much else. The wearer of said thong/butt-floss was chowing down on the man-meat of the person in the driver seat.
Surprised, I step back… and as I’m walking away I knock loudly on the read window. Car starts up within a couple of seconds… and pulls out of my carport. He avoids driving right by me and pulls out of another driveway as far from me as possible.
Always nice to know that Million Dollar Alley is still alive and well night and day. Just don’t take up my carport… or fuckin’ get a hotel room. There are plenty of hotels in the area and judging from the car, the guy was in town for a convention anyway. But I really need to learn… get the camera. Snap a photo of the car and license plate… then go to the front of the vehicle and snap a photo inside… fuckin’ hindsight… next time though I will be remember.

a random update on stuff…

a) 17 March is set to go… I have the keg of Guinness. We currently have six briskets of corned beef… cabbage to be bought closer to the end of the week. And apparently downstairs neighbor is going to do up a Guinness stew (which I informed him that it would most likely use Guinness Stout… not Guinness Draught). I’d recommend nothing earlier than 2pm…
And just as an FYI for folks… Milady does have to work the next day so it won’t be a late night. Nothing past 10pm I’d suggest.

b) last week I was talking about the NHL not taking appropriate action in past incidents over the past few weeks. Well the NHL has stepped up and said enough is enough… they dished out a minimum 25-game suspension over his hatchet chop to Hollweg in last Thursday game. Simon has accepted his punishment and apologized to Hollweg personally and publicly as well as apologizing to his fellow teammates and the Islander fans. So if the Islanders sink fast in the playoffs or don’t make the playoffs, Simon will be suspended into the 2007-2008 season for the balance of the 25 games.

c) and speaking of hockey… guess who is the proud owner of an autographed hockey stick?
