Semi-finals Game 3: Ducks 3-2

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 6:54 pm

Anaheim wins in Vancouver… it’s always nice to shut up the opposition’s crowd within the first five minutes of the game. Too bad they couldn’t keep it up through three periods.

Like Game 2, Anaheim was playing a lot of bad puck handling in their own zone. I don’t know what the hell is going on with them over the past couple of games but this cannot continue to happen if they hope to advance to the final dance. They also have to become a lot more disciplined and stay out of the penalty box. Anaheim took six straight penalties before Vancouver started getting penalties called against them in the second period.

Anaheim goal scorers: Dustin Penner with Corey Perry getting the assist… Francois Beauchemin on the power play with Chris Kunitz and Chris Pronger getting the assist… Corey Perry on the power play with Chris Pronger and Andy McDonald getting the assist.
Ducks penalties: nine penalties with two 5-on-3 kills… Vancouver gave up six penalties allowing no 5-on-3 advantages.

Game 4 in Vancouver on FSN West at 7pm PST (on Versus for non-SoCal residents)… tune in and cheer on Anaheim… if we can take Game 4 in Vancouver it will force Vancouver to beat us on Thursday on our home ice in order to stay alive in the semi-finals.

sidenote: for those curious about the vehicle situation… it has been resolved. It was the water pump and ended up costing me about $220. Could have been worse.. glad it wasn’t. Might still look into using the OCTA more often though…

And welcome to all those folks who are getting this feed via LJ. Aren’t you glad I spent the time to get it back up again?

Semi-finals Game 2: Canucks 2-1 2OT

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 6:00 am

Was at the game… and could have stayed at home just as well last night except for the great company of LadyClayton and Milady.

First period was scoreless… and then things started to pick-up in the second period… and the third was a snoozer along with the fourth. What can I tell you? Anaheim looked like shit out on the ice about 75% of the time. They had difficulties maintaining puck control in their own zone… had it poked off of their stick in their own zone way too many times. Could not get the damn puck out of their own zone. Weren’t hitting very well (the occasional check was well received by the crowd though). Took stupid penalties.

Overall it was a really shitty game that Anaheim played. Luongo played excellent last night as did Giguere. Last night was all about the goaltenders. Too bad none of Carlyle’s lines could fuckin’ do anything aside from looking like a bunch of amateurs out there last night. No one skated well last night… and there is no excuse for their crappy performance. They did not show up ready to play… plain and simple.

Better luck next time Anaheim… you better show up in Vancouver ready to play your best game possible otherwise this series is going to take a different slant that I am not wanting to see. A lot of people are awaiting the Anaheim-San Jose match-up for the conference finals… do not disappoint them…

Vehicular woes…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks,Guinness, car stuff — Niekon @ 5:53 am

So it definitely sounds like it is the water pump… but they are going to have to remove the timing belt to verify for sure. All in all… about a $200 expense on a car that doesn’t go into the shop very often… if sort of maintained… and is just used for short trips to the store and work. It’s not a long-haul kind of vehicle.

Took an earlier bus this morning to work… got in to the office about ten after six which I’m sure will be a shocker to my supervisor who looks at the online timeclock of when I clocked in. Bus coming to work… nice and quiet. Bus leaving work going home… O_o
A whole different ballgame depending on the direction one is traveling. I had a family… two parents and three or four kids get on at one stop and the kids were extremely noisy and the father was not helping the situation either. Was so fuckin’ happy when they got off… I was getting ready to blow a fuckin’ gasket and rage on this asshole that no one else wanted to listen to his annoying fuckin’ brats yelling and screaming on an enclosed bus.
But on my trips… I’ve been able to sit down and get further into my Pokemon game. That seems to be a bright spot… a decent reason to stay on the bus solution. The cost factor is another possible savings.

Bear with me on this one…
Current gas prices around the corner from me were $3.17 per gallon when I filled up the Honda on Monday. I think they were $3.19 this morning. It cost me about $25 to fill up the tank. That tank will last me at least two weeks… sometimes a bit longer than that depending on any other sidetrips I might or might not take during that two week period of time.
So for one month it would cost me at least $50 for filling up the gas tank. This is not including any sort of future repairs needed on the vehicle.

Current monthly bus passes are $45. I can leave my place at 5:30am… go to the AM-PM on the corner to pick-up my two 1-liter bottles of Mtn Dew and the walk down Harbor to Chapman and wait for my 5:47 bus to arrive. Granted, I am losing thirty minutes of sleep doing it this way but oh well.
In my time on the bus I can work on whatever book I happen to be reading at the time… I can catch-up on my pile of magazines… I can play some of my handheld video games… I can just rest and relax.

Drive time to and from work about 15 minutes
Time to and from work via bus about 20 minutes not including the walking to and from the bus stops.

Walking is good for me… sitting on my ass all day every day is not good for me. Maybe once I get the Honda back I’ll still do the OCTA thing. No harm, no foul. If I happen to be running late one day I can drive in… but I could just take the bus too.
And even simpler? With a bus pass, I could take the bus from Orangewood & Harbor the couple of blocks to the Chapman & Harbor stop… but that would take the fun out of the walking. Wouldn’t it? ^_~

Do not forget the Canucks versus the Ducks… Game 2… tonight at 7pm. For those with cable or satellite television is it on FSN West. Dish Network folks it should be 417. DirecTV subscribers it should be 652. Everyone else, you’re on your own… except for all one of you in Germany, you can watch the games apparently on NASN. Who knew that there was a sports station that is all American games in Europe? I didn’t. Everyone else can just figure out your own channels otherwise… :P
My door is open to folks to those who wish to watch the game. Guinness is on tap… hopefully will not run out.

Speaking of which… those who wish to watch any of the upcoming games at my place are more than welcome to do so… but if you are going to want Guinness, then you will need to start pitching in for a new keg. Especially if the Ducks hit the Stanley Cup… you don’t think I won’t have a keg on tap for that? If I see a Duck player hoisting the Stanley Cup I will be pulling out that keg and tapping it right then and there… creating a massive fountain of Guinness out my front window onto the street below… ^_~

that is all for now… hopefully I’ll hear from the auto shop today that it is all ready to go so I can at least take my car home this weekend. And I’ll see whomever decides to pop by this evening later on then…

Curse of the vehicles…

Filed under: Me!!! — Niekon @ 5:57 am

So last Sunday Cache is heading home after spending the weekend down at my place and his car craps out on the way home. UGH!!!

Yesterday I’m coming to work and all of a sudden my car is making weird noises and when I park I see coolant pouring from underneath my car. UGH!!!

This morning I rode the bus into work. Different… not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be. Just can’t understand why a lot of people hopped on at Chapman & Beach only to get off two stops later at Chapman & Monarch. Doesn’t make sense to me except that they didn’t want to spend ten minutes walking. Meh… that would be like me taking the bus from Harbor & Orangewood down to Harbor & Chapman then crossing the street to catch the Chapman & Harbor bus to Chapman & Monarch. Laziness… the walk did me good this morning… even if the bus was running a few minutes late. :P
Played some Pokemon Diamond on the ride over here… and will be taking my car into the shop around the corner at 8am to see what the hell happened. One of the guys here thinks water pump. I can only hope it’s the bloody water pump and not something bigger and more expensive. I already know I need to save up for a new clutch plate… but it’s still going good. I need to deal with the loss of coolant and freaky noise now.

And this really put a damper on things for me too… Milady and I were planning on heading up to Santa Barbara for Memorial Weekend. Instead I’m dealing with making sure I have money for rent, bills, and now car repairs. I hate being a grown-up at times…

And will be trying to do as little as possible this evening. If car is ready by the time I leave today then great… I’ll have to see how much it’s going to cost me first and discuss with Milady. If it’s ready then a very relaxing evening playing World of Warcraft as I am working on my quests to get keyed for a new dungeon… and possibly try skilling up my fishing to 300 so I can get to the next step.
BTW: Cache, if you are reading this… why in the hell are people to skill it up in ZG? I can’t even enter the instance…

Semi-finals Game 1: Ducks 5-1

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 8:43 pm

Great game by Anaheim tonight. They started a bit off their game but within ten minutes into the game the rust was shaken off and the game went off the hook.

Andy McDonald got his first career playoff hat trick in the third level. The arena went apeshit… lots of orange towels… and a few hats on the ice afterwards.
Chris Kuntiz got three assists in tonight game also…

One down… three to go… Friday at 7pm PST on FSN West. Lots of cheering and yelling that night just like tonight ^_^

Ducks vs Canucks…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 8:14 pm

Seriously? What is up with the rhyming here April? Anaheim will need to crack the shell of Luongo in order to win… and to shut down several Vancouver players…

Anyway, here is the schedule

  1. Game 1: Vancouver @ Anaheim – 25 April @ 7pm (Versus)(KDOC in SoCal)
  2. Game 2: Vancouver @ Anaheim – 27 April @ 7pm (Versus)(FSN West in SoCal)
  3. Game 3: Anaheim @ Vancouver – 29 April @ 5pm (Versus)
  4. Game 4: Anaheim @ Vancouver – 1 May @ 7pm (Versus)(FSN West in SoCal)
  5. Game 5: Vancouver @ Anaheim – 3 May @ 6pm (Versus)*
  6. Game 6: Anaheim @ Vancouver – 6 May @ TBD (Versus)(FSN Primeticket in SoCal)*
  7. Game 7: Vancouver @ Anaheim – 8 May @ TBD (Versus)(FSN Primeticket in SoCal)*

* denotes games if necessary

I will update this listing when I get the local channels… if there are any local channels broadcasting the games. I’m sure FSN West, FSN Primeticket, or KDOC will be playing most of the games which will mean we have the game blacked out on Versus in the Southern California area…

And good luck to Detroit against San Jose… watch out for that asshole Ron Wilson… he’s a prick and will resort to bullshit tactics to win a game…

Game 5: Ducks 4-1

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 6:50 am

Hmm… this looks like a complete reversal of Tuesday night’s game against the Wild. And it was a complete reversal. Anaheim came out hard and did not let up for one shift in the game Derek Boogaard was pestered all night by different players from the Ducks bench… even being matched up with Corey Perry at one point in the game for a face-off. The refs were totally watching him… and we all knew that something bad could happen at any time between Boogaard and any Duck player. But Boogaard seemed focused on one person last night… Scott Niedermayer. Boogaard was taking a lot of run at Niedermayer but Scott kept bouncing back and would not give in to Boogaard’s goading.
Chris Pronger scored the first goal a bit over one minute into the first period… and Anaheim took it from there. Corey Perry got a goal… Ryan Getzlaf got a goal… Travis Moen got a goal (an empty net goal near the end of the third)…
Only real problem I saw was Anaheim giving up a short-handed goal to Martin Gaborik in the second period. Other than that Anaheim played well… even fighting off a 5-on-3 for nearly sixty seconds on some rather questionable calls. Scott Niedermayer got a double minor for high sticking… it was Gaborik who took the stick to the face. Understandable for two minutes… not four. Gaborik went down too easily and was out for the very next shift like nothing happened.
But Minnesota got their comeuppance seven minutes later when Boogaard got nailed for the very same call as Scott did… and we capitalized on that power play. Scored once in the first two minutes of the power play which was at 2:07 if I recall correctly… and Boogaard’s penalty was reset to two minutes from there… and we just kept pushing them, but this is also when we gave up the short-handed goal.

Great game… great crowd… and kept hoping to see if Boogaard and Parros would get into it during the game. It seems that all hell broke loose in the pre-game warm-ups when Boogaard elbowed Pronger in the back when they passed each other on the ice. Parros took exception and there was a bunch of pushing and shoving on both sides of the ice but no punches were thrown.
And guess what? We had a celebrity sitting one section over from me… try to figure out who it is from these photos…

Game 4: Wild 4-1

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks, work crap — Niekon @ 8:20 pm

not a great game for Anaheim. Minnesota played like a wild animal trapped in the corner and they hit hard… fought hard… and ended up taking the game but allowing Anaheim to bring back home to finish off the series. Only thing that Minnesota really proved is that they won’t go down as quickly as they did in 2003. ^_~

And this is what I was greeted with at work today… and the QC guy decided to immediately point fingers and blame my client as the reason why we seem to have some sort of rodent infestation. Yeah… and those feral cats in the back yard have been starving for the past two years… uh huh…
Let’s just say that I could get into a lot of trouble for posting these up…. ^_~

Game 3: Ducks 2-1

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 7:37 pm

I refuse to say it… but it’s looking a lot like 2003 (sung to the tune of “It’s beginning to look at like Christmas”)…

Anaheim came out strong in the first period and managed to get over their second period slump that has been plaguing them for so bloody long. Every so often Anaheim will actually play a period of time that every period rocked… and this game the second was one of their finest second periods of play in a long fuckin’ time.

Congrats to Anaheim for making the Xcel Center go deadly quiet for most of the third period. Nothing makes me happier than to hear another team’s fans go deadly quiet like they were at a funeral. Minnesota did breathe life into the Xcel Center in the final minutes of the game when they scored their only goal on the power play… a questionable power play at that. Moen was cross-checked in the neutral zone… and the Minnesota player who made his run at Moen went after another Duck player to start a fight. Moen came in as the “third man” and got nailed with a penalty. I was surprised to see that the Minnesota player didn’t get nailed with a double-minor for the cross-check and for the roughing call…. but what the fuck do I know? Apparently nothing…

Next game is Tuesday at 6pm on KDOC-56
