Ducks Alert!!!

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 1:34 pm

Attention Anaheim Ducks fans… with the Ducks out on the road for a couple of games this week, there are select viewing parties in which you can watch the games amongst other Ducks fans. Milady and I attended one last week at the ESPNZone in Anaheim and had a good time. Granted, we lost but it was a good crowd.

Ducks @ Canucks – 27 November @ 7pm PT
Viewing Party at Dave & Buster’s at the Block of Orange

Ducks @ Flames – 29 November @ 6pm PT
Viewing Party at Dave & Buster’s at the Irvine Spectrum

Milady and I will be attending the viewing party on the 27th along with CacheCrash. If you are interested in joining up with us, let us know and we’ll try to save you a seat.

Wanted to give a shout-out to David at the Ducks Wire… met him this past Wednesday and had a good conversation and great time watching the game with him. Can’t recall the other guy at our table, but he stiffed the server by not even tipping for the soda refills. Not good bar karma pal… O_o

Anyway, maybe we’ll see David again at another viewing party… always nice to meet up with some other fans. Especially those who happen to write blogs that I am reading on a rather regular basis (come on… his is part of my many feeds that are my homepage)

Speaking of hockey… Milady and I finally got to attend a regular season game this year thanks to my boss being out of town and the typical recipient of those tickets also being out of town. It was against the Phoenix Coyotes… and the first game that Anaheim would have to face their former back-up goaltender, Ilya Bryzgalov.
Partway through the first period they were showing some video highlights of Bryz on the jumbotron… and soon the arena was standing and cheering him on… Milady and I were amongst some of the first to applaud him for his time with us. He kept lifting his gloved hand in thanks to the crowd… and it just spurned more applause. You could see the smile though his mask… it was awesome.
Game didn’t end the way we like our games to end. It did end up in the shoot-out. And it wasn’t Giguere in the net on our side… it was Jonas Hiller. Hiller has a lot of growing to do to fill those shoes vacated when Anaheim dropped Bryz… but he’ll get there. He’s good… but not great yet.

Bryz: we played tough against you that game but we didn’t stomp all over you either. We were nice once… but next time the admiration is gone just for that game. ^_^

Final note: if I ever get up to take a leak during a game, chain me to my seat. At the viewing party I disappear to have a fight take place with Brad May and someone from the Stars… and it was still going on when I got back to my seat. Long fight…
Friday’s game: Milady told me no more getting up because we’d keep taking penalties whenever I did… so bolted to my seat I had to remain for the rest of that game. *cry*

So what are we all doing tomorrow evening? Watching the Ducks take on the Canucks!!!

First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks, gaming, random crap — Niekon @ 12:49 pm

nah… we’re not taking anything… well maybe, I’d like for Anaheim to take another W in their game tonight against Dallas. But we’ll have to see how that turns out.

Let’s talk Ducks for a bit before I get into everything else in life.
1) Ryan Getzlaf re-signed to a five year $26.5 million contract. A nice raise for Getzlaf… compared to his current salary. So Getzlaf will be a Duck until 2013… Corey Perry is next to be signed, but Scott Niedermayer could be a kink on that negotiation… we’ll have to see what transpires in the coming months.

2) Scott Barnaby traded from the Washington Capitals to the Anaheim Ducks. Really? Another center? This new addition to the Ducks will be placed on the fourth line with the likes of Parros and May. A bit more toughness and hitting from the fourth line. Should be interesting. But also means one of our other five centers could be moved to another position, like a right or left winger. Andy McDonald… I’m looking at you…

3) still no word from Selanne nor Niedermayer. At this point in time I am almost wishing both would just officially retire. Yes, I’d love to see them skate and play again for Anaheim, but in truth… them coming back to the team is going to do so much damage at this point in time. Already Anaheim is looking to have to cut someone next season if they want to even try to re-sign Perry. With Niedermayer playing around with these crappy stall tactics is going to make that re-signing more difficult. Do we or don’t we have that $6.75 million available to dangle some of it in front of Perry?
Scott… there’s a great line from Clerks that I use as part of my personal philosophy… “shit or get off the pot”. Same applies here Scott… play or get the fuck out of the game. Stop dangling your hairy ass on the lip of the bowl if you’re not going to unload.

4) Game tonight against the Dallas Stars. Thus far this season (and most seasons in recent years) Anaheim has not exactly been spectacular. Then again, there is something about a certain team from Los Angeles staging a comeback of comebacks to win in OT. And as of late, Anaheim has been fighting back… and even winning in the shootout (four in a row folks… that’s how many shootouts we won all of last season!!!). And I noticed in the last game between the Stars and Kings, Turco wasn’t in goal. *ominous ooo’s*
We’ll see if Anaheim is up to the task of taking another W tonight or not.
Game starts at 5:30pm PT today… no 7pm. This is an away game… but will be televised on KDOC if I recall correctly *checking listings… slow ass work connection* Yup, KDOC. That’s 56 for those of you unsure about things.
There is also a watching party at the ESPNZone in Downtown Disney. KROQ will also be in attendance along with the Ducks Street Team. Chances to win free stuff is always a good thing too… ^_~
Maybe if I get out of here somewhat on time I’ll make my way up there for the game. Not quite sure yet since it would require me to deposit my paycheck at some point today too. ^_~

Turkey… turkey… no turkey!!!!
This year we opted to skip on the turkey festivities. And as I noticed no one commented on an entry a couple of weeks ago about letting me know if interested in joining Milady and I for tacos and burritos… invites are closed. Milady and I are figuring out something else to do. Unsure what yet, but something else. Might stay in… might go out. At this point in time it depends upon how we are feeling tomorrow.

The holiday tree is up… lights have been strung… and ornaments decorate it. Not surprisingly, there are ornaments that did not make it onto the tree this year… seems we have too many ornaments. Go figure. Not even going to go into that number of Radko pieces sitting on that tree right now. Let’s just say that I’d cry if that tree ever got knocked over. And have some interactive ornaments on there too… who all remembers their See ‘n’ Say? Got one of those on the tree… and it actually works ^_^
Photos have yet to be taken still… just haven’t been in the right mood to light the tree and take photos of it.

For those with a Sony PSP, you might want to take note… Sony has opened a Playstation Store for PSP users now. You can pay a small fee ($5.99) for old PS1 titles that can be downloaded and played on your PSP or PS3. Hmmm… Wipe Out and Hot Shots Golf seem to be where I’m looking right now. ^_^
Just curious if the system will remember what games you have bought in the event you need to clear off the memory stick. Will have to see if I can re-install the game later or if I’m screwed. O_o

I had some other stuff to talk about but right now I’m bored at work… I’m tired… cranky… have a headache… want to go home…

So I’m going to leave you all now. For those celebrating it… have a happy Thanksgiving. For all of us who aren’t… enjoy the day off (unless you work for Disney or some other service industry and suck enough to not get the day off).
For those of you partaking in Black Friday… enjoy. Bundle up… and carry a big stick. Us? I think Milady is about done with all of her shopping…

it is time…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks, random crap — Niekon @ 8:02 am

Time to die little boy… bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

WTF was that all about? I have no idea. I think my keyboard is possessed or something. But I digress and move on to some other things… holiday season and hockey. Hmm… they don’t seem to go together quite as smoothly as peanut butter and chocolate. But whatever… I’m going with it anyway.

The holiday season is upon us for those who have yet to be assaulted by television ads and catalogs in the mail… and that can only mean one thing. Milady’s & Niekon’s tree is about to go up!!! In fact it’s going up today once I can clear these people off of my floor in the front room. Been up since 5:30 and I’m ready to go now. Lazy bastards… :P
So the tree is going up today… holiday cards are almost completed. A few cards are needing some rework since people failed to give us updated addresses until AFTER we had already addressed everything. Pig fucking bastards… you get coal… fuck that, coal is worth something. You get a US Dollar, I hear those aren’t worth crap anymore…
Anyway, those cards that are completed are sealed, stamped, and sorted depending upon where in the country they live. And as such those cards will leave here on certain days in order to arrive the day after Thanksgiving. We are sticklers for this. Those who do not recieve their card the day after Thanksgiving, blame the USPS… international recipients need not gripe… you’ll be lucky to get something this month ^_~
Speaking of which… Cam, it seems we can’t find the updated address. Please email it to me. Thanks.

Photos of the tree will go up in the next couple of days. Lots of new ornaments to add this year. Hopefully we have room on the tree for them. Otherwise we’re going to have to get another tree ^_~

Since I know none of the local new channels covered this bit of news last night… the Anaheim Ducks places Ilya Bryzgalov on waivers yesterday morning at 9am PT. Apparently he was told of this after the Kings game on Thursday and was allowed to say his goodbyes to the team at that time. So basically teams around the league have until 9am today to claim him off waivers or else he is demoted to the minor leagues… the Portland Pirates.
There is a lot of speculation as to why Brian Burke did this in this manner instead of seeking an actual trade for another player. This move is seen as a quick salary dump… and would seem to be a move in order to allow for another player to join the team in the near future *cough*Teemu*cough*… Anaheim had to keep Scott Niedermayer’s salary space open during his “suspension” and if he did return then things would be good. Otherwise Anaheim would need to dump players quickly to free up $6.75million really quickly. Not an easy feat in the league these days when one can’t even trade out a pretty decent goalie for $1.362million.

So who could end up picking up a new goaltender today? Some names being tossed around are: Pittsburgh Penguins… Washington Capitals… Tampa Bay Lightning… Phoenix Coyotes… Los Angeles Kings… Buffalo Sabres…
I think it would be interesting to see him go to a team in the Eastern Conference… I hear Pittsburgh has a pretty decent team if they can get their goaltending situation under control. And it would just mean that Milady would need to get yet another Penguins jersey… ^_~
I don’t want him going up the road to Los Angeles. He’ll get boo’d by the fans when he hit the ice and it’s not his fault… blame Burke for this one even if Burke is trying to play the “but I’m only looking out for his best interest” card.

About one hour to go… and we will know if Bryzgalov is a Pirate or still within the NHL. Of course, Burke could be really stupid if Bryzgalov isn’t claimed off of waivers… put him on re-entry waivers which would leave whatever team picking him up responsible for only half of the remaining contract and Anaheim responsible for the other half. Don’t be a moron Burke… I am sure the Samueli’s would not be pleased with that move and you would not be around too much longer as our GM if you did make that move.

so that about does it for now. Still waiting for these lazy bums to wake their asses up and get a move on. I’ve got things to do today… and a game at 7:30 this evening to watch, damn it. Who in the hell is still asleep at 8am anyway around here? You lazy bastards… :P

EDIT: Phoenix have claimed Bryzgalov off of waivers… congrats to Phoenix I guess. We’ll be seeing Bryzgalov back in Anaheim next Friday when Anaheim faces Phoenix at 1:05pm PT. Hmmm… wonder why I know that time so well? I have tickets… and you can’t go… :P

Axline? Huh? If you don’t know this name then you should stop reading now… it’s not going to make much more sense beyond this.

Those of you who are aware of this name still around?
Bill Axline… we knew him… we hated him… he was an ass. And it seems someone out there has it out for him… and has taken to the wonderful world of blogs to blast this pig fucking bastard in any way possible.

time to really talk turkey… or in my case, no turkey…

Filed under: cooking — Niekon @ 9:10 am

So Thanksgiving is a week away… and for many folks that’s time to spend with families and gorging themselves on dried out turkey and nasty stuffing and who knows what other crap might show up on the table.
Last year I opted to prepare a couple of turkeys since we were actually going to be having family down from the Bay Area and ended up making it an interesting event. This year that part of the family has chosen to stay north… so instead of my busting my ass trying to do up something different for a big bird this year, we have opted to go a non-traditional route. No idea who else might be around… maybe Cache will stop by… don’t know though. But Milady and I have opted for the lesser of the many evils for this upcoming holiday weekend. No more working on thawing birds a couple of days in advance and brining them the day before. No more laboring trying to get marinades and whatnot set-up in advance. This year… it’s simple. Ground beef… refried beans… tomatoes… onions… guacamole (the chunky kind for you wimpy ass Americans)… sour cream… cheese… tortillas.
Taco… burritos… whatever. Will have the pan for doing up hard taco shells…

Folks are welcome to join us if they wish. Just drop me a note ahead of time so that I might be able to plan accordingly. Would hate to run out of something… ^_~

Let’s talk turkey… I mean Duck

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 11:30 am

Game day in Anaheim… and the visiting team? Traveling through great peril… up I-5 to the Honda Center… it’s the Los Angeles Kings.

What? What’s so special about tonight? Why it’s the official naming of this “rivalry” of course. Let me tell you though, the four finalists are not that exciting and are probably submissions from someone working at a television network. These names rank right up there with a show on the tele based upon the cavemen from an auto insurance commercial… pull your heads out of your asses folks and come up with something a bit better than the Freezeway Series, Freeway Faceoff, Ice-5 Series or Crosstown Showdown.
While not a fan of any of them, I’d rather the Ice-5 Series take the win on this one… the others are just too moronic to be allowed to exist anymore.

Anyway… for those living in the SoCal area, you are in for a real treat tonight if you happen to have cable or satellite. FSN West and FSN PrimeTicket are teaming up for tonight’s game to bring the regular game that you are used to seeing broadcast on Prime Ticket… and as for FSN West? They will be broadcasting a “Rinkside View” of the game. What does that mean? The natural sights and sounds of the game viewed from the first row of the Honda Center.
7pm PT… tonight… FSN West AND FSN Prime Ticket. Milady and I will be watching the game… probably be doing a lot of channel flipping between the channels since I know that some shows are taping tonight. Folks can come over if they wish… just be aware that Guinness is not available in our place. We’ve kind of gone dry for the past couple of weeks.

Duck Rumors!!!!!
It was recently stated in an article for TSN I think that Scott Niedermayer would be making his final decision prior to Christmas. And to add fuel to that rumor, Scott recently started working out on the ice again to get back into shape. Will Scott return? I think it’s all going to come down to how Anaheim is holding up until then. If they are so far out of it… I think Scott will retire.

Teemu Selanne was at the game this past Friday night and after Anaheim beat San Jose in the shootout, Selanne was down in the locker room meeting with the players. Allegedly there are “indications” that he is ready for a comeback. And that would be news to a lot of people since he has not been seriously training in the off-season. At least Scott is getting ready in one way or another. Unless Teemu has a top secret ice rink somewhere, I don’t see him coming back at this point in time.

Ilya Bryzgalov still having his contract shopped around? Of course this has been passed around for the past year now. Even more so after Anaheim won the Stanley Cup last season. And with Anaheim picking up Jonas Hiller (currently playing for the Portland Pirates), there really isn’t a need for all those goalies. Bryzgalov is a good goalie… he just needs more time in the net to really show what he can do over the long haul, not just every so often. Will he get traded this year? Probably. To which team? Who knows… I know GM Brian Burke would not want to trade him to a Pacific Division team (Phoenix or Los Angeles?) and would want to lean towards a trade with a team from the Eastern Conference. But that’s just my opinion on the matter.

So that is all from here for now. Let’s see if Anaheim can win a game in regulation… these OT games and SO’s are killing me even though Anaheim has won two shootouts this season which says a lot from where they were last season. I prefer to take the lead early and hold on to it. Though LA did do something remarkable last week against Dallas. Down 4-0 late in the third period, LA managed to get five straight goals past Marty Turco in a period of 5:07. Dallas came back to tie the game and force it into OT, but LA took the win halfway through the OT period. That gives a little too much hope to that LA squad… and could play psychological games on the Ducks.

You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feelin’

Filed under: random crap — Niekon @ 10:51 am

The new season of Lost begins Monday! Kinda.
ABC has (quietly) announced that it will begin posting its Lost “mobisodes” (originally intended to debut with Verizon Wireless customers) on Monday, Nov. 12, at abc.com. The series of two- to three-minute vignettes — collectively known as “Missing Pieces” — kicks off with “The Watch,” focusing on Matthew Fox’s character. The micro-stories aren’t deleted scenes — they’re newly-shot material that fits into the larger Lost saga; it’s up to the fans to figure out where they belong. A new Webisode will post each Monday.

K-I-D-S… Kids Incorporated…

Filed under: random crap — Niekon @ 7:15 am

ok… just kidding. We’re not talking about that scary show from the Disney Channel that gave us the likes of Martika… Mario Lopez… Shanice… Brian Poth (for you CSI: Miami fans out there). Instead we’re talking about the annual charity drives that take place around this time of year that Milady and I are supporters of… and thought we’d give a pitch for each one.

Around since 2003… Child’s Play has been a charity of gamers helping kids. This is the one charity that seems to really spark a lot of interest within the gamer community. But in recent years it has gone beyond just the gamers. It has involved the web comic folks… and game companies… and other corporate sponsors. Originally Child’s Play was just a few children’s hospitals in the United States… now they cover over three dozen in the US… some in Canada… one in the UK… some in Australia… one in New Zealand… and one in Egypt. Egypt? Really? Okay…
With over two million dollars donated in the form of money, games, toys, and books since its inception, this year looks to be like previous years. Amazing. For those who wish, you may visit the linked page and then decide upon a children’s hospital you wish to donate to and it will pull up a pre-selected Amazon Wishlist page that will ship directly to that hospital.

Another one that Milady got involved with last year was the Kits for Kids donation drive that is put on by CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County for those not living in this area) and the Anaheim Ducks. Each kit costs $20… and depending on the number of kits donated, you have the chance to be entered into various drawings for some rather nice prizes.
2 kits donated – Autographed Anaheim Ducks Player Card
5 kits donated – Entry into a drawing to meet JS Giguere and Chris Kunitz after an Anaheim Ducks home game. You will also get their game used, signed sticks.
10+ kits donated – Entry into a drawing to win your very own suite for the Friday, February 15th game against the Dallas Stars.

Go to https://www.formspring.com/forms/ducks-chockidsclub to make your Kits for Kids donation…

that be it from me for today. Still trying to de-grease after last night’s inside-out burgers flooded my front room with the smell and feel of grease EVERYWHERE. Though Cache did enjoy not one but two of the full-sized beasts. Tonight shall be lazy I think… running some quests with Milady in WoW on her Night Elf Rogue since the big patch is coming out tomorrow that has us laying off our Horde characters until then.
