Niekon is booked…

Filed under: random crap — Niekon @ 10:05 am

and card is charged for two round-trip first class tickets from SNA to MCO. We fly out on Halloween night and come back to the OC on the evening of 15 November. Had to laugh when they asked if I had a seating preference in first class… aisle or window… bwahahahahahaha!!!! More leg room is all I care about… and not being squished between two people who can’t seem to stay within the boundaries of their own seats… :P

So the two major parts of our WDW have been dealt with. Airline tickets bought… hotel room booked…
First class flight… concierge hotel accommodations… and lots of food and alcohol at Epcot. Oh yeah… and swimming with the dolphins at some point. If we swim (ok, if I swim) too soon then the rest of the trip will be disappointing. Seriously… what in the hell can top something like that?
Sitting at the chef’s table at V&A’s? Nothing compared to swimming with the dolphins…

okie… off to play some WoW for a bit. Had to harass CacheCrash to let him know that he was taking us and picking us up next year… ^_^

not feeling so Ducky…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 6:45 am

at least Pahlsson isn’t… he will be out of the Ducks lineup for the next few games while they are on the road as he is dealing with a recurring abdominal injury. Hoping that this injury heals up because while Pahlsson isn’t known for his scoring abilities (though he is wicked on the penalty shot) his “Do Nothing” line is a huge help to the rest of the Ducks team whenever they are out on the line.
The “Do Nothing” line? Yup… whenever that group of players is out on the ice, the other team can do nothing to score. Seriously… they are one of the best shutdown lines in the NHL. Even before the triumphant return of Scott Neidermayer that line was kicking ass and taking names. It was most of the other lines that were faltering.

So… are the Ducks going to be able to survive without Pahlsson? We shall see tonight at 6pm PT as Anaheim faces the Edmonton Oilers again…

As for me? Totally forgetting that there was a game tonight had stated to a neighbor that I’d work on her computer swapping out a hard drive. Maybe I can do it before the game if I get out of here in a timely manner (bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!)

2008 NHL Winter Classic

for those who care… and would love to watch a hockey game that is played outdoors we will be watching the 2008 NHL Winter Classic between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres on 1 January 2008 starting at 10am PT. The front door will be open… and the alcohol flowing (probably not too heavily though as some of us have to be alive the next morning) cheering on the Penguins (sorry Sabres fans… this is a Penguins house).

For those not able to attend the viewing at my place… you can watch it from the comfort of your own home while those fools freeze their arses off outdoors…
1pm ET (10am PT) on the following networks: NBC, CBCSports, RDS, and NHL Radio.

I’ll post up more later on if time allows… let’s just say that my Mavica seems to have crapped out on me on Christmas Eve and required me to scramble to buy some disposable cameras in Town Square. *cry*
So now I’m looking at a DSLR… nothing major… something like the Nikon D40. I welcome opinions on that model if you happen to know of it…

Moral of the story: food not more important than grandma

Filed under: Random Stories — Niekon @ 1:39 pm

Question: You and your family are staying at one of the hotels at the Disneyland Resort… it’s breakfast time… family is all set to go but Grandma is having chest pains. Do you go to breakfast or call the paramedics?

Answer: go to breakfast… and pray that the kids don’t go back to the room to find Grandma has kicked the bucket. Oops… too late.
Merry Christmas to this family that thought to fill their stomachs over taking care of ailing grandparent… at a Disneyland Resort hotel. May your Christmas vacation be filled with holiday cheer and laughter as you plan Grandma’s funeral. You pig fucking bastards… hope that you are so stricken by these events that you cannot shove anything more down that gullet of yours because you have officially lost any right to be one of us…

And thank you for adding to my high hopes for the most deadly of syndromes… the human syndrome. Now allow me to go back to my demigod ways and watch from the outside as you pitiful fools figure out new ways to kill yourselves and elevate stupidity to all new heights…

Freeze pigfucker!!!!

As of 12pm ET the NHL’s annual trade freeze is in effect until 27 December… so no trading players around Burke. That doesn’t mean you can’t discuss… you just can’t actually trade anyone else away.

Things that could be in the works for the Anaheim Ducks following this holiday trade freeze…
Trim the blueline… that would mean someone like Beauchemin or O’Donnell could be headed out the door. While I’d rather neither leave… I’d rather keep Beauchemin as he seems to be a pest to announcers who try to pronounce his name…

Free up cap space for next season in order to re-sign Perry… no way in hell Burke is stupid enough to let Perry go and he’s come out and said that his intentions are to re-sign Perry prior to the end of this season.
Might want to leave some room in that cap space for the scorer of our goal of the game last night coming from Bobby Ryan. Bobby who? Ryan was a prospect that Anaheim got long ago that is finally paying off. Seriously… teams were willing to give away the farm for this kid. He is supposed to blossom to be THAT good. Over the past couple of games that he has played in I can see definite potential in Ryan. He just needs to grow some more. Last night I was watching him getting pummeled in the corner by guys that towered over him. Granted, he was on his hands and knees but he’s not that big of a player either. But whatever he’s brought to the team, keep it coming…

Improve on the stupid penalties… seriously. Enough is enough. Granted, there were some bullshit calls last night… and a lot of non-calls made. Anaheim cannot win games by continually playing down a man… in the game on Sunday they had how many penalties? Eight? Nine? At least one of which was a double-minor (4 minutes). This wears out your penalty killers and does not give your team the chance to get scoring chances. Thankfully the penalty killers did their job that night and didn’t let any pucks into the goal.

Play the game that you know how to play… get under the other team’s skin. Seriously… it was working for you last night. I have never seen Nabakov loose it as he did last night… spearing Getzlaf… slashing Parros… Anaheim got under his skin and he ended up paying the price by taking an penalty. San Jose tried to play the same type of game that Anaheim plays… extremely physical… and it kicked their asses. Sure there were scrums after whistles and a lot of hard hitting into the boards, but overall Anaheim was the one dominating the hitting. San Jose just looked like they were out to take runs at the Anaheim players.

Get Parros out there more… seriously. I don’t know what in the hell he did over the summer but his skating has improved… his playing has improved… his fighting has improved. Take for example last night Parros vs. Davison fight. Parros got in there and just unleashed on Davison. Davison got the takedown but I call it a win for Parros as Davison was just trying to get out of the fight.
At least that was more of an even match-up than the Carter vs. Rivet fight later in the game… horribly mis-matched. Hey Rivet… can’t you pick on someone your own size or do you also like to look at little girls too? You fuckin’ perv…
Kudos to Carter for at least trying to stay in the fight and not turtling. If Nabakov hadn’t been a prat then that fight would probably not have happened…

Christmas is coming and I’m not getting fat…
Annoyances from work yesterday morning… a couple of months ago we were told that we would be working on 24 December. No big deal, right? It’s not like I was going to be going anywhere. Milady has Disney working her ragged during that time… as usual… and we find whatever time we can for doing our thing.
Yesterday morning we get an email stating that instead of working on the 24th that everyone was to come in on the 22nd to work. A couple of us kind of kiboshed that plan by announcing that the head of our company had told our biggest client that we would be open on the 24th. We cannot change that in less than a week with this client. So a couple of us are coming in Monday morning for a few hours to hammer through reports… and are forcing a skeleton warehouse crew to come in as well. Sorry, but don’t fuck with us… we make our plans accordingly and you trying to change things at the last minute doesn’t bode well with those of us following what was stated a couple of months ago.

More annoyances from work… I’m moving offices… again…
June ’06: started working and shared an office with the person handling the FL account here.
September ’06: moved to my own office for handling the FL account in IL
January ’07: moved to middle office area for some reason… don’t recall
April ’07: moved to first office and shared briefly with new person handling FL account in IL… then he moved and Lotion Girl arrived on the scene (much drama)
December ’07: moving to a completely different office in a completely different area of the building…
Problems with this new move… no filing cabinets have been set up. Copier/printer/fax were just set up yesterday… the move was to take place this past Friday (two of us are holding out for as long as possible)…

And let us not even get into the totalitarian rule of the offices now. Nothing may be hung on the walls… at least for now. At such a time items are allowed to be hung on the walls, they must be approved by the wife of the boss.
No papers may be left on one’s desk at the end of the day… desks must be immaculate. No boxes allowed in offices, even if hidden under desks.
We must take out our own trash… wife of boss thought it would be intelligent to not allow the cleaning crews into the new office area. Which makes me laugh because I don’t see that family taking out their own trash… so we’ll have to see how long this lasts. Merry Christmas… you’re fired… now get the fuck out…

Odd scene on the bus yesterday evening on the ride home. Some gal gets on and sits in the seats in front of me… a few minutes later another passenger joins her and starts getting personal with her. He introduces himself to her… and it’s odd… overhearing them discussing prices… and then it dawns on me. Hooker!!!
When in the hell did the OCTA become a place to pick up streetwalkers? And do they qualify for the “streetwalker” name if they are riding the bus?

and that will do it for me… at least for now.
The Colorado Avalanche roll into town for a game tonight at the Honda Center… 7pm puck drop. Let’s see how Anaheim is looking after playing a physical game in San Jose… flying down here… and then getting prepared for playing another game. Doubtful the boss is going to give up tickets for the game… but if he does who shall I contact first?

one day…

Tomorrow is it… only about a dozen folks in attendance which will be fine since we will most likely be inside trying to not freeze our asses off… Milady has today off so she is spending part of it cleaning and whatnot.

In other news… don’t piss off Tori Amos
It seems that Tori got a bit peeved at a pair of girls that were sitting in the front row gabbing on the phone during concert. She was mid-song when she finally had had enough… stopped playing and verbally attacked the girls telling them to get the fuck out of the concert. Harsh? Maybe… but Tori saves those front row seats for people who were in the back… and upgrades them. She picks them… they are not bought seats. So for someone to have the gall to sit gabbing on the phone during a concert where you were hand-picked to sit there by Tori, you better be prepared to face the lashing these two girls got.
She did pick up right where she left off after the two left the seats… so not all is bad, right?

Moral of the story? When you are sitting at a concert, don’t be an ass and turn off the cellphone…

Ducks time…

Game tonight against the Minnesota Wild… and I’m not expecting to see Scott in tonight’s game. Burke hasn’t been able to trade anyone yet to free up that “tag cap” of less than $1 million… and with the trade freeze coming up next Wednesday I don’t see anything happening until after the new year.
What can we expect tonight? A bloodbath… these two teams hate each other with a passion. Expect Parros, May, DiPenta, and who knows who else to end up with fighting majors…
Game prediction? Duck win by TKO… with at least one fight between Giguere and whoever the Wild goalie is…

Oh well… off to deal with the chaos that is known as the Customer Service Clusterfuck of an Office Move. No filing cabinets… no one can hook up their computers… and a bunch of bullshit rules set by Der Fueher…
And somewhere in this pandemonium there is the company Christmas party… O_o

A lot of drinking will be happening tonight to cleanse the mind of this mess…

and a fine “fuck you” too…

So yeah… I have this holiday gathering coming up in a few days and I’m not in the mood for it. Sure, I’ll put on the smile and good attitude but I’m just not feeling it this year. I think part of it stems from the fact that I not only get to work on the day before the Christmas holiday… but also the day after too. And having that one fuckin’ day off kind of gives one the feeling of what’s the bloody point? Seriously… work… off… work for a few more days… weekend. And repeat the following week for the New Year thing. Bloody fuckin’ brilliant planning on my employer for this one…
Oh wait, the Bolingbrook facility is getting the 24th off… so what the fuck is going on that the Garden Grove facility is sucking on rotten egg nog?

Yeah… happy fuckin’ holidays folks… I’ll be sitting at home alone that day either playing some game on my Xbox 360 (gift from Milady) or playing World of Warcraft… all depends on my mood that day.

On to other stuff in the world…

Anaheim Ducks win two of their three road games and then come home to be embarrassed by a couple of kids who were playing in their first fuckin’ NHL game. WTF?!?!?! Seriously? Was I actually watching that debacle take place in front of me? Anaheim was playing stupid… not Forrest Gump stupid… this was more like inbred to the point of devolving kind of stupid.
Anaheim coughed up the puck way too many times in their own zone and in the neutral zone… and this is a team where every player is playing to keep their jobs? Like bloody hell they are… they all seem to be resigned to the fact that someone is getting the axe in the near future, might as well make it look like everyone on the team is shitty too.
Only saving grace this morning was to see that Anaheim actually did try to stage a comeback… too bad it was a little too late in the game to do so. I turned it off after it went 3-0 Vancouver… I could only imagine how much worse it would get. Somehow it ended 3-2 Vancouver. A lot better than the last time we faced them but still a loss and a disappointing show from Anaheim. As a team that is supposed to be so good they aren’t showing it. They are not out there skating for the full sixty minutes. They give some here… some there… but it’s not consistent. And that is the downfall of this team this season. I have seen them play a full sixty minute game and they are awesome. Then there are games that it looks like a bunch of amateurs out there on the ice…

Will the return of Scott Neidermayer make a difference to this team? Slightly… but I’m not expecting any big turn around for this team. They will be lucky to even make the damn playoffs this season with the way things are going now.

For those who will be watching the Pasadena Rose Parade on 1 January 2008 pay attention to the Anaheim float. For the first time in it’s 119 year history, the Stanley Cup will be in the parade… and it will be on the float that apparently is for the City of Anaheim. As a resident of Anaheim, I’d love to know a few things:
a) when the hell did we get a float?
b) why wasn’t I informed that there was a float?
c) who in the fuck is paying for this float?

well I guess I should wrap things up…
honey baked ham and smoked turkey delivered yesterday… keg of Guinness to be delivered tomorrow afternoon… hot buttered rum mix made… dark rum (got plenty) ready for pouring…
Things to do before Saturday evening: clean the place up… clear off laptop from table so we can put food stuff there… maybe finally get around to wrapping Milady’s gifts? At least those that have arrived already… make the homemade marshmallows?….

alrighty… time for another posting…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks, gaming, random crap — Niekon @ 12:53 pm

For those reading this at home… this is the time that you quickly scroll by and ignore/skip/delete this entry…

Some folks over on LJ might be aware that recently I partook in a charity auction for Child’s Play that netted me getting any WoW character of my choice turned into a little cellphone charm, a cool icon… and a decent sized (600×600 pixel) image for whatever. Last weekend I posted up a survey showing six different images… three in my Night Elf form with three different weapons equipped and three in my Moonkin (BOOMKIN!!!!!!) with three different weapons equipped.
Basically, the winner was the beast staff… but the form is a toss-up still. If you are interested… you can head on over here and vote… I think I made the voting public to all… and whatnot, even those who used to have accounts and have since canceled them.
The voting has literally come down to image 2 and 4… and the final decision will be made this weekend so I can submit my screenshots to get my character transmorgafied (don’t ask… don’t tell…) because I’m sure the guys over at The Bronze Kettle would love to finally be done with my shit. ^_~

Speaking of charities… there is a story making the rounds coming out of the Sacramento area. Long story short? 9-year-old kid got a Nintendo Wii for his birthday after his mother waited in line for several hours to get him one. Dad is working with a children’s toy drive for the holidays. Kid decides to donate his brand fuckin’ new Nintendo Wii to the toy drive… O_o
Dude, I like doing shit for organizations like Child’s Play and CHOC… but there is no way in hell I would be giving up my Wii or Xbox 360. This kid is just nuts… he needs to be evaluated ^_~

Holiday gathering coming up… small intimate affair from the looks of it. Honeybaked ham ordered and should be delivered next week. Hot buttered rum stuff to be made this weekend. Looking at also making homemade marshmallows… and possibly some other stuff. Depends on how I’m feeling this weekend and next week. New keg to be delivered next Saturday too…
Still need to wrap Milady’s gifts even though I know I have a few more boxes on their way in the coming weeks.
Trying to figure out something for one more person… but she’s a pain in the arse to buy for since her wishlist is so bloody short… kind of takes the fun out of it ya know?

Now to the Ducks…
For anyone not paying attention to the sports section of the newspaper or local news, Scott Niedermayer finally announced this past week that he was coming back to Anaheim for at least this season. He started practicing with the team the day after his announcement… and will be staying in Anaheim while the rest of the team is on a three-game road trip. We could see Scott skating in a game as soon as next Wednesday against Vancouver… but we all seem to think that he’ll be making his re-appearance next Friday against Minnesota…
But in order to do so, Brian Burke has to move at least one player from the roster that could affect next years salary cap since Scott’s return put a crimp on next years salary cap.
Several names are being tossed around… Todd Marchant… Francois Beauchemin… Andy McDonald. Even names like Mathieu Schneider are being tossed around. Personally, I don’t want Schneider to be the one to go… I would love to see him and Scott playing together. That would be a line to reckon with ^_~
But for now it’s a game of wait and see…

But with this all happening there are some concerns now… namely being Corey Perry. At the end of this season he is a restricted free agent (RFA) and Anaheim can give him an offer sheet… he can accept it or pass on it. They can take him to arbitration… but if after his initial rejection, another team can do up an offer sheet. The original team can match that offer sheet or pass. If they choose to pass then the offering team just got themselves another player but are going to lose a draft pick or two in the process for the following season. Such was the case this past summer with Dustin Penner. Edmonton offered a lot of money that Anaheim was not going to match. Too bad that large amount of money wasn’t money in the bank for Edmonton to get a great player… ^_~
So now we are on Perry watch…

But that has no affect on this season… ^_~
With Scott coming back we still have about 2 million in cap space left to play with… Teemu, interested in a small contract for the rest of the season? ^_~

Game tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks… currently sitting one spot ahead of Anaheim in the Western Conference standings. Game is at 5:30pm PT… on FSN West. I’ll be watching most of the game alone… so let’s see if Anaheim can win on the road… ^_^
