Cache is back… Ducks self-destruct… computer decides life isn’t worth living for anymore…

First off… welcome back Cache. Now get your ass down to my place and fix my fuckin’ computer ^_~
Oh yeah… I owe you some beer. I kept running out of Guinness and had to saddle up to your stock in my fridge. *cry*

So it seems that it is okay to bring back something like 10 kilos of gummy bears… but not legal to bring back more than a couple liters of alcohol. What is wrong with this world? And I guess the couple hundred pounds of chocolate are okay too… ^_~
I swear one of the only reasons Cache goes to Germany is for the junkfood… :P

So yes… my computer tower decided to take a flying leap to it’s death the other night. I woke up yesterday morning to check my email and crap before going to work… and I am surprised with a locked up screen. Hmmm… reboot.
Reboot the system and the screen is black… no sign of life from the tower. Is it the video card? Is it the motherboard? I don’t know!!! I do know that I’m probably going to be spending some money this weekend. Just not sure how much yet though.
So Cache is coming down at some point today (whenever he decides to recover from his flight back and acclimate to the timezone again) to take a look at the computer.

Bonus: he gets a free dinner out of it tonight too because Milady’s dad is in town. I knew we were going out to dinner with him tonight… and I knew I needed that tower figured out ASAP so we can get Milady back online without having to resort to the laptop. ^_^

Oh Anaheim… what is happening to you?
I am following the game as best as possible on my cellphone last night on the ride home…
From what I could tell in the first period it was a decent game that ended with the score tied 0-0. Shots were pretty even… Anaheim dominated in the faceoffs though. Anaheim did have a huge problem though in the beginning of the game as they were only had one shot on goal in the first half of the period. They managed to get into it and were pretty close in the number of shots on goal with Minnesota by the end of the period… within one if I recall.
Do my walk home once I got to my stop and chatted with the neighbors for a short bit. Went inside and turned on the game. Five minutes into the second period… what in the fuck happened? The score is now 3-0 Minnesota. Five minutes… Giguere faced four shots on goal… three of which went in. Let’s just say that he did not stay in the game after that. Hiller was put in net and allowed another two goals by the end of the game.
Let’s just say that Anaheim looked like crap… and Carlyle is definitely going to be tearing into them for a while on that loss.

that’s about it from here for now… work has been long this week… it is Thursday, right? Already over thirty hours this week… go fuckin’ figure… and do I get paid for all of that extra time spent here? Nope… so what’s the bloody point then?

another week… another bit of my life wasted away…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks,Uncategorized, gaming, random crap — Niekon @ 3:03 pm

Yup… the weekend doesn’t feel like I accomplished anything worthwhile.

Friday night was spent with Kimmie & Frank in WoW helping them out with some quest dungeons… and then trying to show them through Blackrock Depths. A couple of deaths later and we just called it.

Saturday I was up early… and was gonna hit the grocery store. Then I thought I’d actually go to Albertson’s since they have a larger selection. Original Milady wasn’t going to go with me… just trusting me on my own since it was only Vons. When I mentioned going to Albertson’s she was up and out of bed. All of this before 6:30am… shock to see her moving and somewhat coherent at that hour. Nearly $300 later… and a stop at McDonald’s for breakfast… and we were back home.
Since Milady had to work at 1pm for a few hours for some training thing or whatever… she crashed out for a bit after we had plowed through some stuff on the DVR. She took off to work… and I fired up the laptop for some WoW. Bought another guild bank tab… and started arranging things a bit more in the guild bank. And then ran some of the daily quests… somehow I managed to increase my rep enough in one area to get an additional quest to the list of daily quests.
NHL All-Star Skills Competition and the YoungStars game were on Saturday evening as well… and I was trying to play WoW and pay some sort of attention to the All-Star stuff. Some of the stuff I liked… and other stuff was just *snooze*.

Sunday was another early one for me… I can’t help it. Hopped onto WoW for a bit… did some mining rounds… started to dig up info on the materials needed for a ring for Frank’s character… running around doing little stuff here and there… a lot of fishing… capping out my cooking skill… and running a few battlegrounds.
Battlegrounds? Niekon runs battlegrounds? Yes… every once in a while. For one thing… it was double the honor this weekend for Warsong Gulch. Another thing is that I also had a quest in Warsong for some gold and additional honor. First BG was a nightmare… second not too bad… third was interesting since neither side really “captured” the flag for points. It was a lot of keep-away from each other and we ran the full time limit on the BG. A lot of kills… a lot of deaths… a lot of fun stuff.

HOLD THE PRESSES!!!!!!

The Anaheim Ducks announced this afternoon the signing of a one-year contract for the Finnish Flash. Financial terms were not given… but I’m sure it’s for near league minimum. Anything over $1 million would be insane given the fact that we’re over halfway through with the season.
What does this mean for the Anaheim Ducks? No idea… Teemu is going to be playing without his luck Andy on the ice anymore… I’d be curious to see what line they do put Teemu on though. First line? Second line? Who is going to get bumped to a third or fourth line? And the ultimate question… when will he start playing?

We now return you to your regularly scheduled boring-ass post…
When Milady got home she had to run some quest that took her to an area that I noticed had some quests I didn’t recall ever running before (ohh… they weren’t available before!!!) so she and I ran around doing quests in an area that was far below our level but well worth the quest reputation.
One of the more interesting quests had us fighting some overly large sea monster… Tethyr is his name… and fucker is a nasty bugger. But it was fun to watch all the people aorund the docks just jump in for the assist in killing this damn thing. 150K in health… and me… itty bitty Boomkin tanking this bastard quite a bit. Apparently I am noticing from some of the comments in the info about this mob that it’s kind of buggy and one doesn’t always get credit or whatever.
You know what? Awww…. Milady and I did the quest… someone else got the mob tag… and guess what? Still got credit for the kill. Damn whiners… ^_~

and now we are to today… Monday… and I’m at work doing whatever it is that I do at work. Typically that consists of me typing random words into a window here on my screen that I stop and start-up again several times during the day until it’s to the point that I feel it is completed.

yes, I think it’s done for now…

I’m a winnah!!!

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 3:11 pm

Okay… that was an odd one…

For those who actually tune into the Ducks games you might be aware that over the past many games the Anaheim Ducks have teamed up with Carl’s Jr. for the Watch & Win contest… each game they will give out a key word and you go the Ducks website and enter it in along with your mailing address and stuff like that.
For each of the nine games that the code is given… there are five winners. Winners will receive a Ducks prize pack that consists of a t shirt, hat, mini-banner, foam puck, magnet, key chain… blah blah blah… and a $20 gift card to Carl’s Jr.
At the end of those nine games… a grand prize is given out for a framed team autographed hockey stick… and $250 in Carl’s Jr. gift cards…

Well, it seems I won one of the times that I entered… won the Ducks prize pack… but I can still be hopeful for the hockey stick, right?

Mmm… nothing says Anaheim Ducks like going to Carl’s Jr and being handed the obituary for Carl Karcher along with your meal ^_^

Wings destroy West Coast?

Say it isn’t so… really… say it isn’t so.
San Jose loses to Detroit 6-3 on Saturday…
Los Angeles loses to Detroit 3-0 on Tuesday…
Anaheim does what to them on Wednesday night? Slap their asses and yells “bring it on”? What in the yell is this, the NHL or a gay rumble in WeHo?

And because I love following these injured reports so closely… and they tend to prove me wrong more times than not ^_~
Out for Detroit is Dallas Drake who is listed day-to-day (could very well be playing tonight for all I know) along with Henrik Zetterberg (also listed as day-to-day). Drake’s injury goes back over a week but it’s a knee injury of some sorts. Zetterberg is having back spasms from the San Jose game this past weekend. Apparently the Zetterberg thing is serious enough for him to drop out of the All-Star game this coming weekend (more on that later)…

Out for Anaheim is Sammy Pahlsson (still?)… and apparently George Parros is off of the IR. Woohoo!!! I know Parros was wanting to play at some point in the road-trip but things didn’t work out that way but we might see The ‘Stach making an appearance tonight. ^_^

In net for Anaheim will most likely be Giguere and it will probably be Hasek for Detroit since Osgood was in net for them last night against the Kings.

Now for the nitty gritty of this breakdown: The season series this season for Anaheim is 1-0-1 with that OT loss coming from the shootout. The only difference between those two games was who had the home-ice advantage. Anaheim trounced on Detroit in the first game of the series and it was played in Anaheim. Detroit beat them in the shootout in Detroit. Home-ice tends to lean more favorably on Anaheim for the win… but also thrown into the mix are players like Doug Weight… Scott Niedermayer… Brandon Bochenski… all players who have joined the team in the past couple of months and have helped to get the fire lit under this team’s ass.

Prediction: Ducks over the Red Wings 5-2… Red Wings are playing back-to-back games (granted it’s only against the Kings) and you’re in Anaheim.
Goals by Perry, Getzlaf, Scott Niedermayer, Bertuzzi, and for the fun of it I’ll give on to Parros. Extra goals in my pants go to the Force sisters who will be signing autographs between periods in the lower concourse (from what I understand it will be the lower concourse).
Don’t know who the Force sisters are? Ashley Force is the oldest of the three sisters that are in the drag racing business… and she’ll be at the Honda Center basically to promote her appearance in the Winternationals in February. So a possibly bonus for those inside my pants if we happen to score tickets for tonight’s game (boss out of town… who knows…). Otherwise it will be a bonus-less evening of me at home watching the game…

All-Star Weekend update: with several players dropping out of the All-Star game due to injuries (or whatever else… we’re looking at you Martin Brodeur) we have had some swaps made to fill out the lines. Included in that list of players that are now going to Atlanta this weekend… along with the players already headed there (Chris Pronger and Ryan Getzlaf)… are Scott Niedermayer and Corey Perry. Woohoo!!!! Only missing Giguere for my dream All-Star line-up ^_^

that is all… WrathGlory, if I manage to score tickets I’ll send you a text msg since Milady has to work late tonight.

minor amendment to yesterday’s posting and other stuff…

First the amendment: It does seem that Versus is going to be carrying the skills competition and the Young Stars game on Saturday afternoon/evening… unfortunately it is not listed as such on the NHL’s website. I happened to find out while I was watching the Penguins game yesterday.
Damn… lost in the shootout? Really? Oh well… Crosby was out of the line up for Pittsburgh and most of the pressure was on Malkin’s shoulders. He did net a three point game with two goals and an assist, but the same can be said of Washington’s Ovechkin. Ended up diving into some of the stuff on the DVR last night instead of watching the overtime period… Penguins got a point as did the Capitals, so no really excitement there anymore.

So for those interested in the skills competition and the Young Stars game… Versus at 4pm PT and the All-Star game is the next day at 3pm PT

So this morning was kind of an odd one…
I stop by the AM/PM for my daily allotment of Mtn Dew and I come across a carload of trannys just kickin’ it in the parking lot of AM/PM at 5:30am…
Then walking to the bus stop I am being passed by all of these joggers… this is the most number of joggers I have seen in one day since I started taking the bus last year. Nearly a dozen of them going by me at some point along my journey… all but two of them were female.
Not seeing anything at ACC right now that would require all of these dames to be in town. Next little thing isn’t until tomorrow and not thinking they are for Endo Pharmaceuticals. Dunno… I give up ^_^

Speaking of the ACC… dates to remember:
22 Feb – 24 Feb: avoid going outside if possible… the United Spirit Association All Star Cheer & Dance Competition is in town…
18 Apr – 20 Apr: again… avoid going outside if possible… now we have the American Showcase National Cheer & Dance Competition in town…
7 Jul – 10 Jul: why do they have to do these things here? Really… isn’t there a convention center in LA? the LA Dance Magic National Finals are in town. During that same time the Elks are in town too…
6 Sept – 7 Sept: might want to go to this one… the North American Reptile Breeders Conference… ^_~

and for next year… the week to avoid coming to Anaheim… 15 Jan – 18 Jan… NAMM…

What weekend did I say the 4th Annual OMGWTFBBQ was to be held? 26 July? I am seeing the San Diego Comic-Con again trying to one-up me by having their event the same weekend as mine. Well, fuck ‘em… I have better food anyway ^_~
Speaking of which… I starting to toy with ideas in my head already of what I’m wanting to do. Not sure on a crowd size that I’d like to cater too though… depends on how much I actually feel like doing with whatever time I have available.

So yeah… OMGWTFBBQ is slated for that weekend… might get moved to the following weekend. Depends on how things are going for me I guess… will know more in a few more months.

And other than that… my day in the office should be equally boring. Most of my clients are in snooze mode now…

How we lost hold of the Pacific Division…

… or how Anaheim didn’t play the game they have in the past month…

That is all I have to say on the subject. Anaheim only registered nine shots on goal in forty minutes. It was a horrible beginning to a game that was dominated physically by Dallas as well as on the scoreboard.

If Anaheim wants to be taken seriously after yesterday then they have to being their “A” game every time, whether it be on the road or at home. Next game for Anaheim is on Wednesday when they host the Detroit Red Wings. Good luck trying to get tickets to that event… any time the Red Wings roll into town it’s a sell-out and the Wings fans come out in droves (must be angry Kings fans or something… are there seriously that many non-Anaheim fans in the SoCal area that support EVERY other team than Anaheim? If so, then move the fuck back to that city… seriously). I’ll be watching from the comfort of home.
Then a nice long break for most of the team with a couple of players heading to Atlanta for a couple of days for the All-Star game… and next game is on the 30th at 4pm PT against Minnesota… again…

Note to self: ignore the Minnesota website that lists out certain players on the IR… that seems to be a big ol’ pile of crap as Boogaard was very much there on Friday night. Thankfully nothing happened out on the ice since we really didn’t have an enforcer-type for him to beat on for a bit. Come on Parros… you should be ready to play again by then, right? I know Parros was with the team and at least taking practices… but apparently not 100% yet.

NHL All-Star game is on 27 January at 3pm PT… my guess is it will be on NBC. And I guessed wrong… it’s going to be on Versus. And sadly… the All-Star game is the only thing that will be broadcast.
Why in the hell is it that whenever the NBA or MLB have their All-Star breaks that things happen over several days and most event (skills competitions) are televised… and the NHL in their infinite wisdom and stupidity get a deal with Versus for only the game. Fuck you Bettman… you have sold out the league for what… minimal television coverage in the US? Exclusive contracts with Versus that no other hockey game can be on the air during a game that is playing on Versus (I actually had a Ducks game that was not televised for the first thirty or so minutes because of that contract agreement)… and then minimal All-Star Weekend coverage consisting of only the game. I bet ESPN would have handled it differently… but then again, ESPN is a fuckin’ sports network unlike Versus which seems to cater to the extreme fighting crowd more than anyone else.

And last but not least in the world of hockey… this year is the tenth anniversary of the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer campaign where players wear special jerseys for a game (it has an HFC patch on the upper-right part of the chest area). The captain from each team wore these designated jerseys for one game between 11-13 January. Afterwards the jerseys were signed and the NHL has put them up for auction. Let’s take a look at some of these, shall we? Opening bid on each jersey was US$250.00 with bids in increments of US$20.00…
Anaheim’s Chris Progner – $820
San Jose’s Patrick Marleau – $932.12
Los Angele’s Rob Blake – $701.00
Calgary’s Jarome Iginla – $1,320.00
New York Rangers’ Jaromir Jagr – $2,020.00
Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby – $13,080.00

Yes… you read that number correctly… over $13,000 for a game-worn and signed hockey jersey. I understand it’s for a good cause but really? That much for a jersey? And the auction doesn’t end until 31 January. Will it go higher? Who knows…

Are you a rock god? I know I’m not… so I quickly found out as Milady and I played around on Guitar Hero III this weekend. I got my Les Paul controller for the Xbox 360… so I’m happy. Got it set up… and configured correctly for me (damn lefties!!!). Only issue I have is the whammy bar since it’s now right under my thumb and difficult to deal with if I’m also “strumming”.
So Milady and I played on Easy-mode… she cranked through a couple of songs playing the damn thing lying down on the coffee table (the guitar… not her lying down). But she was playing in the practice mode… I later went and decided to kick it into professional mode and got through one boss battle thus far (took me three tries on easy)… but I did manage to get a couple of encores during my time playing. I am sure my play would have been a lot better too if it wasn’t for a mass amounts of alcohol I was consuming that evening too. We finally called it a night… and the next morning as we were getting ready to possibly head out for a bit I popped the game back on… and discovered that I actually play a lot better sober. Took a few runs through “Sabatoge” by the Beastie Boys… and thought I’d kick up the first song on the setlist to Medium.
OOPS!!! I was doing well for the first minute or so… and then fell apart. Three buttons… I’m doing okay for the most part. Four buttons… I hold my own and then fall apart. Brain sees the layout on the screen… it knows I’ve configured it for left-handed play… but it still wants to reverse it so I’m pretty much fucked.
Did manage to do decently with “Devil Went Down to Georgia” the night before… while heavily buzzed… think I scored above 80% on it. Milady would have to confirm for me. But am thinking of picking up the first two games at least. I’ve heard they are a bit easier to deal with than GHIII… if only they would release “GH Encore: Rocks the 80′s” on the 360…
EDIT: or even released the original GH game for that matter onto the 360… O_o

So now Milady and I have a little something that we can play with whenever we are bored and just want to rock out for a bit.

so that is all for now… if you come for a visit you just might get a guitar thrust into your face to see if you too can can rock…

Welcome to the Pacific Division, please hang on to your hats and glasses, folks…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks,Hockey,Me!!!,random crap — Niekon @ 8:13 am

cause this here’s the wildest ride in the NHL!. Top three teams in the Pacific Division are:
1) Anaheim Ducks – 58 points
2) San Jose Sharks – 57 points
3) Dallas Stars – 57 points

With Dallas beating San Jose last night (one of the few times you will see me cheer on the Stars) in regulation and the Ducks winning over Nashville it literally threw Anaheim into the #1 spot in the Pacific. Not bad for a team that spent most of the first half of the season flipping between the #3 and #4 spot.
Most important… they hold the #2 spot in the Western Conference and could help to add to that point lead tonight against the Minnesota Wild.

And in case you wanted to gloat a wee bit more… Anaheim is the #3 team in the entire NHL. Let me repeat that for you. The #3 team in the NHL right now are the Anaheim Ducks. Again, a huge improvement over the first half of season where they sat in the lower half of the league standings for quite a while.

So let’s take a look at tonight’s match-up shall we?
Tonight Anaheim plays the back-end of back-to-back games against the Minnesota Wild at 5pm PT (guess where they are playing). This season we are 0-2-0 against the Wild with both of those losses at home. This is the first time this season Anaheim is venturing into Wild territory for the first time and we’ll be back again on the 30th for a 4pm PT game (ugh!!!).
Anaheim record last year against the Wild on the road: 1-2-1 (playoffs included). Anaheim’s overall record against the Wild last year, playoffs included? 6-2-1.

A big difference between the first two games this season and the final two games between these two teams: Scott Niedermayer is in our lineup now.
But Anaheim has a couple of wrinkles in their game as of late… Chris Pronger is now listed as day-to-day after taking a puck to the knee in last night’s game against Nashville… Sammy Pahlsson is still out of the line up… George Parros is still out (not a good sign when coming into Minnesota)… and J.S. Giguere will most likely not be in net since he played last night.

Pronger’s injury last night is definitely not the way that Anaheim wanted to start this road trip. Thankfully it’s a day-to-day thing and not long term like a broken foot… but this also means the rest of the defensive line will need to step up to fill that gap and that became apparent last night as I kept hearing the same three names: Schneider, Beauchemim, Niedermayer (as in Scott… not Rob)… and their minutes definitely showed it. Niedermayer with just under 25 minutes played… and the other two both played over 26 minutes (Beauchemin played nearly 27 minutes last night).
What I didn’t like about last night game were the penalties that Anaheim took. Corey Perry took two himself… but at least Martin Erat of the Predators spent more time in the box than anyone else. Erat had over half of the penalties for his team with four penalties taken last night including a hooking call made in the final minute of play as Nashville had the empty net and was trying to tie the score. Oops!!! Erat might be sitting for a couple of games to fix that little fuck-up. A hooking call in the offensive zone while your team is on the attack. Not that I’m complaining though… I appreciate the win but I just hate to see players, no matter what team they play for, taking stupid penalties. And that was a stupid one.

So anyway… tonight… let’s check the stats shall we?
Last regular season win for Anaheim in Minnesota was 18 January 2003… did you feel that chill down your spine too?
Anaheim is 7-0-1 in their last eight games which include two road games… Minnesota is 4-3-1 in their last eight games, half of which were on the road.
Minnesota’s #1 goalie is day-to-day with a groin injury which could have Niklas Backstrom in the net for Minnesota… and we all know that Anaheim loves Backstrom in the net. He’s the goaltender that Anaheim destroyed during the first round of the playoffs last year.

Issues I see with this game…
Marion Gaborik – this man is deadly with his shots… he is a thorn in Anaheim’s side and without Pahlsson there to cover him I’m not sure who will be up to the task.
Derek Boogaard – he’s tall… he’s mean… and he loves to hate Anaheim. Too bad he’s on the IR… everyone join me in a collective “awwww….”
Chris Pronger – “ow… there is a contusion on the side of my knee… I can’t skate” Shut up… get a shot… and lace ‘em up. Your team needs you since they already have another d-man out of the lineup.

Prediction:
Ducks 4 – Wild 1 if Backstrom is in net… goals by Perry, Getzlaf, Scott Niedermayer, and for shits n’ giggles one by Giguere. No Boogaard makes me breath a bit easier tonight.

Everyone recall the tiger attack on Christmas Day at the San Francisco Zoo? Well who knew what a little police work could bring out… let’s roll out the evidence shall we?
Brother #1 – blood alcohol count of 0.16… pot was also found within his system
Brother #2 – blood alcohol count within legal limit… pot was also found within his system
Dead Guy – blood alcohol count within legal limit… pot was also found within his system
Alcohol and pot found in the car of Brother #2′s car…

Lawyer for the two brothers keeps claiming that there was no taunting of the tiger by the three. But wait… there are multiple reports of a group taunting the animals. And what about the story of Brother #1 telling the dad of Dead Guy that they were standing on the 3-foot tall metal railing near the moat area? Sounds like they were there doing more than just walking around and checking out the animals.
Oh yeah… and the lawyers for both the brothers and Dead Guy’s family aren’t returning call to the media now. What happened? Your plans for a huge-ass lawsuit just disappear into nothingness with the revelation of the police findings? Darn… I don’t feel pity for you. Dead Guy… you were a fuckin’ moron who deserved to die more than the tiger did… Brother #1 & #2… you deserve to have died instead of that tiger. What part of you are not immune from your own stupidity to die don’t you understand? You are not the uber leet that you think you are. You’re just a bunch of self-centered pig fuckers who think that there are no consequences for your actions. Guess you had to learn the lesson the hard way… but apparently not hard enough as you thought you could capitalize on this incident of your own stupidity and try to get money from the City of San Francisco and the SF Zoo.
Survey says…. X

Welcome to Hell Week…

starting today through Sunday afternoon/evening… if you thought about coming into the Anaheim Resort area… don’t. You are a glutton for punishment if you think things are going to be smooth sailing coming into the area. Stay away… stay far away…
Why? NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) of course… the one time of year that I do not venture out for much of anything. Food in fridge? Not a lot but should be enough to get us through. Smokes? Will have to restock tonight. Guinness? Enough to hopefully get me through provided no surprise guests pop buy. Mtn Dew? Possibly… not totally sure… but I think so.

Seriously… getting ready for the hell that is known as NAMM is like stocking up for an inbound hurricane or something like that. Just knowing that for the next five days parking is going to be hell with cars blocking driveways and more dings than a guild full of noobs leveling new characters. The streets surrounding the area will be swarmed with cars and people… making going to that Long Beach Lesbians Dinner-and-a-Movie Night Out sound like a great fuckin’ idea…

But enough about that… let’s talk hockey…

So… after all of my bad mouthing of Scott Niedermayer he turns around and has his best game since his return to the Ducks. One day after I bash him in my blog he goes and scores a goal and assists in two other goals.
Hey Scott… do I need to talk shit about your play every game from now on in order to get something productive out of you? I will… if it works for you. I did enjoy how humble he was in the interview after the game when he was voted the #1 Star of the Game.
Who else do I need to talk crap about in order to get them to actually improve their play? Bertuzzi? Nope… he’s on a hot streak that I don’t want to interrupt. Getzlaf? No way in hell… his goal last night wasn’t pretty but it’s a goal either way. Giguere? Only on the stupid goals… ^_~

And now… with the win last night over Dallas… Anaheim has moved into 2nd in the Pacific Division and 4th on the Western Conference. Not bad for a team that a couple of months ago was barely hanging on to the 8th place slot.

Next game is tomorrow night against the Nashville Predators… in Nashville. Sorry Anaheim, but your home ice advantage is now at an end. You have only one more home game between now and 15 February and that is next Wednesday when the Red Wings come into town.
Speaking of the Red Wings. I’d like to thank the Atlanta Thrashers for kicking the crap out of them last night… it gives some of us hope that the Red Wings are not unbeatable this season. And while it’s next to impossible to catch them in the point standing (unless Detroit self-implodes between now and the end of the season… bwahahahahahaha!!!!) at least a loss every so often gives other teams the chance to inch somewhat closer.

Interesting stat shown last night during the game… team with the best records for the past month:
1) Anaheim Ducks
2) Pittsburgh Penguins
somewhere Detroit was in there but not as well off as the top two of that list. Both of these teams have done an about-face and really started playing seriously. These are the two teams that were chosen at the beginning of the season to be the Stanley Cup contenders this season. And both teams are about even in the point standings. Anaheim with 56 and Pittsburgh with 55. Hey Milady… if they end up facing each other in the Cup Finals who are you going to cheer on?

Other random crap and bits…

* On it’s way to me right now is Guitar Hero III with the wireless guitar controller. And it’s not the crappy Gibson X-Plorer that every seems to have… it’s the Les Paul ^_^
So yes… I have finally gone the way of the peripherals for my Xbox 360… Milady should be happy that it’s GHIII and not Rock Band ^_~

* some conservative pundit (asshole for those expecting more from me) posted up a grossly mis-telling article on Townhall.com (a conservative website) about the video game Mass Effect. It was apparent from the get-go that this guy had no clue about the video game… was feeding off of some other game biased media piece that too was without research or real facts. Well, gamers got pissed and flooded the site and with comments about how much bullshit this man was spewing from his mouth and then you had the “conservatives” crying out for government censorship and whatnot. In the end it was just a bunch of stupidity.
Well… it was until the pundit decided to do a follow-up piece where he not only backs up his original article with more grossly inaccurate crap (and edits the original article to remove certain things that were inaccurate) but also decided that name-calling was going to be appropriate and used the phrase “Gamer-Nerd” is said twelve times in this most recent (and recently edited article AGAIN!!!). Needless to say, this guy has now made internet notoriety via Penny Arcade. And this guy still hasn’t gotten a clue… and his “editor” commenting that these gamer-nerds need to “crawl back under the rocks from where they came” is a lovely bit.
Ahh… Internet… how I do love you for your wacky and crazy antics…

and that about covers things for now… I’ve got some paperwork I’m trying to get through…

and a reminder: the Ducks game is at 5pm PT tomorrow since it is in Nashville. That means I have to get my arse home in a timely fashion tomorrow. ^_^

hey Cache…

have Cam take you to Rogaki’s… it’s apparently a great place to get really good German food. Currently watching No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain and he’s in Berlin (talk about timely) ^_^

more information for you Cache… and addresses too ^_^

Prater Garten Kastanienallee: Tony and some Berlin locals enjoy a festive meal of schnitzel and beer.
Address: Prater Garten Kastanienallee 7-9 Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg
beer and schnitzel… is there anything less German?

Konnopke/Currywurst: Tony and his friend, Nigel, enjoy a traditional Berlin snack of currywurst and french fries smothered in ketchup.
Address: Konnopke’s Imbiß Schönhauser Aleee 44a 10435 Berlin
Phone: 030-4-427-765
basically they do big ol’ wursts without the skin if I recall. Allegedly this was THE place in East Berlin for anyone and everyone on both sides of the wall to come and eat.

Rogacki Gourmet Shop/Deli: If Tony could have one dream in his life, this would be it – a pleathora of fresh, colorful, aromatic foods, all in one place. Tony and his friend, Natascha, enjoy a meal of various meats, potatoes, salads, and white asparagus.
Address: Wilmersdorfer Str.145/46, 10585 Berlin-Charlottenburg
Phone: 030-343-825-0
good German food… not that fusion crap…

so much to do… so little time to do it in ^_~
Come on… you know I’m a foodie and I’ll go to almost any lengths to plan things around food if possible in order to take in the local cuisine. But at the same time I’m also a museum junkie…

Last trip Cache and I went to Pergamon over on Museum Island. Did not know that there were four other museums over there… the Bode and Neues are both currently closed but there are two others that are open. I know… boring… zzzzz…. :P

For an all-around view of the city from up high… try the Panoramapunkt. At €3.50 per person (€2.50 for children) you can ride the fastest elevator in Europe up 100 meters to get a view of the city that would kick ass.

Check out the Story of Berlin. It’s located in an original nuclear shelter located under the Ku´damm-Karree shopping centre. Regular price is €9.80. Children under the age of 6 are free. And not to worry… the text placards within the exhibits are in both German and English…

The hockey gods must be crazy….

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks — Niekon @ 1:58 pm

One Canadian team rolls through California expecting at least one easy win… instead they get their ass handed to them by all three California teams. Anaheim was the only team to hand them the shutout though. Sorry Toronto… your overloaded roster and overpaid players aren’t any match for the West Coast version of hockey. But always nice to see you come to town and see all the Leafs fans come out of hiding. I’m pretty damn sure these are the same assholes that show up wearing the jersey of whatever team that happens to be visiting Anaheim at the time… but were the first in line for the Ducks Stanley cup Rally last June.
I think they have a word for you ass-munches… loser.

But to those real Leafs fans out there… sorry. It was kind of weird to look over to the next section over and see a few rows of Leafs fans all together… and all VERY solemn. Think the folks behind us were Leafs fans too… which made it only more fun because they had to stare at my back all night… wonder if they ever figured out that #13 for Anaheim doesn’t even exist? And who is this Niekon guy? Is he any good of a player? He must be if his name is on a Ducks jersey ^_~

So good game… WrathGlory and I call it with about five minutes left in the final period. Made great time… easy exit and home with time to spare.

Next game Anaheim played was against San Jose… which was last night. This one I was watching off and on because for some reason there are certain games that they come back and kick ass whenever I turn to another channel. Good thing too… I turned back in time to see things heading into overtime when the Ducks tied up the score 3-3 with about thirty seconds left in regulation.
Approximately another thirty seconds into OT… Anaheim scores to win the game. No shootout… one point closer to that top slot in the Pacific Division and one point closer to staying in the playoff picture.

With Anaheim on a win streak we know that the other shoe is going to eventually drop. Just not sure when though… in Anaheim’s last ten games they only lost two in regulation and one in the overtime shootout. January has been rather favorable to Anaheim this year…
January 2006 had the Ducks 4-5-2… January 2007 is already an improvement with Anaheim currently 5-0-1 with another seven games left this month.

Can Anaheim continue their win-streak against Dallas? Don’t know… we’re 0-3 against Dallas thus far this season.

Rumors have been abounding over the past few months about Scott Niedermayer… and Teemu Selanne…
The return of Scott Niedermayer was confirmed last month when he finally joined the team around mid-month. When that happened the rumors about Selanne went through the roof… as well as talk of re-signing Corey Perry to a contract extension… well it seems those rumors have finally started to actually flesh out…
Last week Selanne announced that he was going to start skating to get conditioned again and that he would announce by the end of January whether or not he would return to the NHL… and the Anaheim Ducks… or not. Well… as of late the Ducks aren’t hurting on the scoring part of their game. With the exception of San Jose last night, Anaheim has kicked up their scoring big time. And I’m certainly not going to complain about that… but for Selanne to come back who would we be sending back to Portland or trading away? And would it be worth it?

Teemu… I love to see you skate but do you think your return to the Ducks will be that great? Look at Scott. Yes, the team seems to have been revitalized since his return, but look at Scott’s play… he’s mediocre right now. Sure he gets in on some key plays once in a while and his return has helped to relieve some of that play for the other guys on defense… but how many times since his return have you seen him cough up the puck in his own zone? Too many to count… that’s how many. Scott’s return is purely psychological for the team. In his thirteen games that he’s been back he has eight points. Behind last year’s 11.5 points in thirteen games or the 10 points the year prior. Sure… he’s getting older. He’s 34… his body has taken one helluva beating in the fourteen seasons you’ve played at the NHL level.
And Teemu, you’re not any younger… you’re 37 with sixteen seasons under your belt. You’re no Chris Chelios or Dominik Hasek… you are going to take longer to heal and recover.
If you think that you can honestly bring something to this team… then by all means, welcome back. But if you think things are not going to change for this team with or without you… then just announce your retirement and let the fans know how much you appreciate being able to play for them and give a big hug to the Ducks organization for getting you that Stanley cup finally.
