Anaheim did what?

let’s see what Anaheim did at the trade deadline…

for a 3rd round draft pick we got defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron from the New York Islanders… he’s fuckin’ 5′ 10″… playing on defense… really? No one can quite make sense of this one.

for a 7th round draft pick we got goaltender J.S. Aubin from the LA Kings. Even the Kings fans are asking why? This is not a great goaltender… he even got smoked in the “Yo Momma”-off against Buffalo’s Ryan Miller…

Makes me wonder if Jonas Hiller might be making his way to the Portland Pirates just in time for the AHL playoffs. I definitely don’t see Aubin getting bumped down to the AHL level…

Lots of other moves today… a lot of them happening over in the Western Conference with teams trying to beef up prior to the playoffs to be able to match the Red Wings and the Ducks. Can I just tell you that I love hearing the analysts on TSN talking positively about the Anaheim Ducks to the point that they are picking Anaheim again this season?

Anyway… here goes:

The killer deal of the day: Marion Hossa from the Atlanta Thrashers for 2 players, a prospect, and a 1st round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins. I think this is a joke of a deal. Pittsburgh gave up what could possibly be a costly trade for them in the long run. They have no hopes of signing Hossa in the off-season and still be able to re-sign Malkin… a VERY short-term deal for Pittsburgh that could bite them in the ass in the next couple of months. Does this trade make them even more of a threat in the playoffs? Possibly. Hossa is a great scorer but I’m not sure what to think when Crosby comes back how that chemistry will play out.

To the Dallas Stars: Brad Richards from the Tampa Bay Lightning… an interesting exchange as Tampa Bay is trying to rebuild. A definite beef-up for Dallas… could prove to be interesting for Anaheim if they have to face each other in the playoffs.

To the San Jose Sharks: Brian “Soupy” Campbell from the Buffalo Sabres for a forward and a 1st round draft pick. Lose a forward and pick up a defenseman. Campbell wasn’t overly thrilled with the trade and was rather emotional in a press conference this morning. Again, we see teams in the Western Conference beefing up to have to face Anaheim and/or Detroit in the playoffs.

To the Colorado Avalanche: they signed Peter Forsberg yesterday… and today brought back Adam Foote from the Columbus Blue Jackets. What’s next? Bringing back Patrick Roy? Get Rob Blake from the LA Kings? Seriously… this stinks of Colorado trying to get back to their glory days with players who from yesteryear. I’m sure when this was all going down this morning there were former Avs who were wondering if they could swing a deal to go back to their old stomping grounds.
The uncertainty of all of this though? Forsberg… if he can’t get into shape and stay healthy then this is a bad experience for the Avs and their fans. I respect Forsberg for wanting to go back to the team where it all started for him… but I’d have rather him not return due to the fact he might fuck up his foot even more by playing.

Definite sellers today…
Toronto Maple Leafs… dumping players and getting draft picks. Smart move. Sorry that Mats Sundin wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause, but you can’t bitch too much. He’s dedicated to the team. Analysts and Toronto fans aren’t overly joyed with Sundin… but respect his choice to stay.

Columbus Blue Jackets… dumping players for picks and prospects. Adam Foote to Colorado… the prima donna Sergei Federov to Washington…

Tampa Bay Lightning… doing some exchanges with a couple of teams. Definitely in re-build mode for them.

Buyers:
Washington Capitals… who expected them to go for goaltender Cristobal Huet from Montreal? This one had everyone scratching their head. And as mentioned above they got Federov from Columbus. I think that they now have like five or six Russian players on their team now… is this the new Red Curtain?

more later maybe… been a long day of trying to stay caught up on the trades and whatnot and making sense of this mess… plus doing my regular work. I pity the fool who dares to ignore the work that he is paid for… oh wait, that’s me about 75% of the time ^_~

No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible

Game tonight if you haven’t gathered by the rather odd title… can you figure out who we are playing? Can you tell me who said that quote?

So anyway…
The Ducks are 5-1 since the return of Teemu Selanne… having only lost that one horrible game on Friday against the Dallas Stars. But what can one expect? It was a long road trip… and the first game back home isn’t always the easiest one to play. And Anaheim bounced back the very next game against the Calgary Flames.
By the way… have you noticed that the number fighting majors and roughing penalties is starting to slowly increase the closer we get to the playoffs?

George Parros: 19 fighting majors this season… 145 penalty minutes… and is somehow a +8 O_o (54 games played)
Brad May: 6 fighting majors this season… 48 penalty minutes… and is a +2 (44 games played)
Travis Moen: 6 fighting majors this season (including the bout with Jerome Iginla with less than 2 minutes to go in the game)… 64 penalty minutes… and is a -8 (58 games played)
Brian Sutherby: 5 fighting majors this season… 52 penalty minutes… is a -1 and has only played in 34 games.

The boys that really seem to be going for the fights are Parros and Sutherby as of late. Sutherby’s last fight was actually against the Avalanche a bit over a week ago. And the hard hitting continues to be a key part of Anaheim’s style of play and now other teams are trying to emulate Anaheim’s style only to see that they also need to know how to back it up. I have seen players taking runs at anyone and everyone not realizing that if they do that then they are opening the floodgates for the hitters on the Anaheim bench to take your #1 into the boards as hard and as often as possible. The Code must be followed… the young kids don’t seem to get it anymore.
Speaking of The Code… Chris Kunitz get a game misconduct in last Friday’s game against Dallas. The penalty is for instigating the fight and an additional game misconduct for instigator with shield (visor) on. Fine… but he was also jumping in to defend for Corey Perry who was getting elbowed and smacked around a bit by Steve Ott.
Now we have Jerome Iginla… I like him… he’s a good player. But this one was uncalled for when he and Moen faced off with each other. Moen was near the end of a shift… Iginla was fresh on the ice. They chatter… drop the gloves… Iginla removes the elbow pads but keeps the helmet with visor attached on. Moen has no visor. They throw a couple of punches… Iginla gets the take down and while on top of Moen throws several more punches into Moen’s head. No additional penalties to Iginla… Moen is in a vulnerable area unable to defend and Iginla is on top of him throwing the punches like there’s no tomorrow.

I can only guess that the evening of the 29th will be an interesting on at the Honda Center when Calgary comes back into town again. Expect Parros and Eric Godard to go at it again for the fourth time this season… and I’m sure someone is going dance with Iginla…

For tonight though… let’s see. Joe Sakic still out of it? Yup…
What about Paul Stastny? hmmm… maybe…
Previous two meetings with Colorado this season? Both won by Anaheim… 2-1 both games…
Anaheim seems to be healthy… and are scoring…

Let’s call it… Anaheim wins 2-1… why break the cycle, ya know? Goals by Selanne (please?) and Carter…

And now for something completely different… The Queens, I mean the Kings, are doing something so stupid… and asinine… just to sell ticket packages…

Shoot me now…

and a big congrats to Milady for doing something that I never expected to do… she has become Exalted in four of the five major city factions. And I know #5 is within about 3000 points.
BTW: found it interesting that for her Exalted status, she is only 1 point away from capping the Exalted status in three of the city factions.

For her hard work grinding out rep for the various factions she is the proud owner of four different riding mounts. The fifth riding mount is inaccessible to Night Elves unfortunately…

World Renowned Recording Group Aerosmith Rocks This Way to Guitar Hero®: Aerosmith®

Fire up the fret board, crank the amp to 11 and get ready to rock this way with Activision, Inc.’s Guitar Hero®: Aerosmith®, the first game built around the legendary music of America’s Greatest Rock ‘N Roll Band: Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer. Slated for release this June, this latest installment from the franchise with the #1 best-selling video game in 2007, puts players in the shoes of Perry (guitar), Whitford (guitar) and Hamilton (bass), as they rock out alongside frontman Tyler and drummer Kramer. Gamers will experience Aerosmith’s GRAMMY® winning career, from their first gig to becoming rock royalty, in a way that no other entertainment vehicle offers.

To celebrate this historic, ground-breaking collaboration, Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock fans will have the opportunity to download and jam to Aerosmith’s “Dream On.” The song will be available for free from February 16-18 on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®Store for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. For more information, please visit www.guitarhero.com.

“Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us,” says Joe Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.”

Steven Tyler says, “Any band that can go from ‘Don’t Want to Miss A Thing’ (Aerosmith’s #1 smash hit) to the ass-kicking ‘Sweet Emotion’ to the cheekiness of ‘Love in an Elevator,’ to the classic ballad ‘Dream On’ shows why Activision chose us to headline this game based on the diversity of the Aerosmith catalog. Not only is songwriting a bitch, but then it goes and has puppies.”

Perry adds, “On a larger scale, it’s cool for us to be pioneers helping to rebuild the music industry through a format like video games. It’s great for rock since the record companies are struggling to make sense of how things are changing. Fans want to get and experience music in new formats–and there are going to be some of them who will play the game, then pick up the guitar for real and start bands. It’s what’s happening now, and it’s only going to build more momentum in the future. It’s a massive change for the music business.”

“We are extremely excited that Aerosmith chose to team up with Guitar Hero, bringing one of the world’s all-time best-selling artists together with one of the biggest video game brands, to deliver a new and unique interactive way for our customers to connect with artists and their music,” said Dusty Welch, head of publishing for Activision/RedOctane. “This partnership will give Aerosmith, a band that has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, a powerful and innovative platform to reach their fans and new audiences.”

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith brings these quintessential rock legends to the interactive realm to create the ultimate gaming experience. As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith’s greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way. Venues from historical moments during the band’s illustrious career offer the experience of “sweet emotion” and further capture the essence of the band’s rise to fame.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. The Wii™ version is being developed by Vicarious Visions. The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version is being developed by Budcat. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB.

guess I did tweak it…

Swelling dropped significantly yesterday evening… which made me happy. But I do know that I managed to tweak something or both over the weekend… this morning as I was getting ready I rolled onto my ankle… and on the walk to the bus stop this morning I was feeling a little more side-to-side play in my knee than usual. So at any moment I could be walking along and I’ll either be felled by my knee and ankle telling me that the ground is a lot better when one is closer to it.

*le sigh*

Picked up a new puzzle game for Milady yesterday on the DS. “Professor Layton & the Curious Village”… just came out this past weekend and already I can see where it’s going to hurt the head. The great thing about this game is that there is a weekly downloadable puzzle via the DS WiFi. I am thinking I might need to pick up a copy for myself too… ;_;

Speaking of which… Cache, found out why the Wii wasn’t connecting to the router. Was trying to get my DS to connect last night and found out that there’s a space in the SSID that is difficult to see. Oops!!! Changed the SSID setting on the Wii this morning and got a nice large update… I’m sure my Wii will be lighting up pretty colors for me again in the near future ^_^
Speaking of the Wii… I know I need to dig up the info again so I can post up the friend code for the Wii… O_o I know I had it somewhere at one point in time but I’m sure that it’s been lost over the past couple of years with the loss of old posts on this domain (fuckin’ bad servers!!!)… as well as loss of posts over on places like Gamingforce… once I find it again, I’ll be sure to post it up for folks who might care…
Come on… you know you care… you want to go diving with me in Endless Ocean ^_~

w00t!!! Found it… had to dig into someone’s LJ comments from a year ago in order to track down the info… O_O
Name: Niekon
Wii code: 4029 2966 3816 0849

Oh and I finally got around to ordering up the free grips for the Wii-motes a couple of weeks ago and I got the email over night that they have shipped. So I can get rid of these ugly things that hurt my hands after a while and are difficult to deal with when needing to change batteries.

Ducks play the Avalanche tonight at 6:30pm PT in Colorado. Let’s check the Ducks and how they are holding up going into their final game of this road trip before returning to the Honda Center on Friday evening…
Doug Weight: already back home after being sent early for a shoulder strain
Teemu Selanne: just one point behind tying up the all-time points total by an Anaheim Duck… currently held by Paul “I’m a lying little pussy who only cares about the money” Kariya. Will he tie the record tonight or is he holding off until he can do it in front of the home crowd?
Samuel Pahlsson: back in the line-up again which made me happy on Sunday but really didn’t hear his name that often out there.
Ryan Cater: this kid is on fire with the goals… let’s see if his golden touch is something that will stay with us now…
Corey Perry: kind of silent as of late… he did get a goal in one of the last few games though… so not completely silent…
Ryan Getzlaf: gone uber-silent… seems his point streak isn’t that exciting anymore. He dropped off of the face of the planet when it came to scoring and assists. Just hoping that he can crawl out of that slump of his…
J.S. Giguere: doing rather decently as of late… with the exception of that last minute goal by Detroit that was disallowed. Luck call in his favor… it could have gone either way at that point and we could have seen OT.

Go Ducks!!!

I nearly forgot… I was supposed to discuss the keg delivery fiasco… O_o

So anyway, this appointment was made back on the 30th of January as I was hoping for a keg delivery on Saturday. No problem with the delivery, the problem was that there weren’t any available kegs of Guinness until AFTER that weekend which kind of defeated the purpose of requesting a keg delivery that weekend. Instead I opted to delay the delivery appointment to the following weekend which was this past weekend.
I’m up early that morning… getting things in order… turning on the fridge unit… mopping up the mess that seems to be whenever a new keg is hooked up… et cetera. Then into WoW I go for a bit before I’m joined by Milady. We end up grouping with with the rest of the guild for some instance runs. First run through Zul’Furrak is a cakewalk… we’re just fucking around at that point in time making sure people are able to finish their quests. Then we are off to Scholomance to help out Dankie with something for his epic mount quest. This is where things start falling apart quickly.
We are partway into the instance… and in an area that isn’t going to kill us (oh wait… Manatus died how many times because of toxic clouds from the undead?)… we are in the room where we are having to kill off a crapload of whelps (mini flying dragons of sorts) when keg guy shows up at my door. I excuse myself from the group to help carry up the keg.
Keg is in place… and for some reason it’s not getting a good seal when it’s being tapped. Manage to get the seal by locking the tap into place… typically we can get the seal prior to locking it into place. Not so today it seems…

I’m getting ready to write the check so this guy can be on his was when he stands up and backs right into the table that the laptop I’m playing WoW on. His ass makes contact with a nearly full bottle of Mountain Dew which knocks over in the direction of the laptop. I freak… and start grabbing towels and moving the now-nearly empty bottle of Mountain Dew to somewhere else. I’m scrambling trying to mop up the soda as quickly as possible… wiping down the keyboard on the laptop… and the external keyboard… when I notice that my character is acting strange in-game. He’s walking backwards… now he’s running backwards in circles… O_O
I exit the game… and work to continue mopping up soda. The guy finally realizes that there is a mad scramble of towels and cleaning shit up says “Did I do that?”… I bite my tongue. I am fuming at this point in time as I’m trying to still mop this stuff up and get the laptop as dry as possible as quickly as possible. I think I have most of it… I pay the guy for the keg and delivery… and now it’s back to seeing what is up with the laptop.
First thing I notice… something isn’t right with the keyboard… I am getting non-stop characters typing at the login screen. Exit game… open notepad… and sure enough there go the characters again. Fuck… which keyboard is it? Praying it’s not the nice and expensive Logitech keyboard (US$100)… pull the USB plug on the Logitech and it seems to work for about ten seconds and then all hell breaks loose again. I am getting overly frustrated at this time. Because I now know it’s the laptop…
After much yelling and frustration via the guild Ventrilo server and pissed off phone calls trying to figure out where the releases are for this laptop’s keyboard I finally find them. Dude… make them a bit easier to see than this. I yank the cable of the laptop keyboard… and plug in the Logitech keyboard again. Time to pray…
Keyboard finally took… and things seem to be working again. Laptop keyboard is now in it’s slot but unplugged….

We did manage to finish the instance… at least the area that we needed to go to. I’m sure there is more to it than the area that we ran… would love to see more of that instance eventually.
Laptop is performing as it should minus it’s regular keyboard functioning. Might see if I can get it up an running again in the near future. Just not sure how…

And that is the story of how the Alienware met Mountain Dew and realized that they were not compatible with each other and threw a hissy fit instead. Or is it the story of the delivery guy with the big ass needs to be aware of his surroundings as it could have been something a lot worse than soda onto a laptop…

meh…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks,Guinness,Hockey,Me!!!,random crap — Niekon @ 1:04 pm

Weekend of World of Warcraft stuff… running instances with the guild of four/five… doing various reputation quests… and then realizing on Sunday afternoon/evening that my RDS had kicked back in at some point over the weekend as I noticed my right foot was rather swollen and upon closer inspection my calf region too was swollen. Leg is still swollen… but no over-the-top amount of pain except from that caused by the swelling. If this continues to persist then I’ll be forced to go seek out medical attention.
Overnight had a leg cramp that managed to stick with me for the rest of the night (thus making it extremely difficult to sleep) and all morning. It just recently subsided which makes me happy finally because it’s one less thing/pain to worry about. Still a bit stiff and sore when walking around though.

Moving on…

How about them Ducks? Even though the last game with Detroit was controversial for both teams… phantom calls… bullshit goalie interference calls on both teams… Anaheim managed to win their fourth straight game on the road. Ryan Carter is turning into a scorer now too… I think we were all shocked to see him score not once but twice on Martin Brodeur on Friday night.

So the final game on this rather long roadtrip comes a close on Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche… can Anaheim got for five straight on the road before coming back home?

For those living under a rock in the past day or so… or totally ignoring all sorts of news, especially when it pertains to hockey… there was a rather freakish accident that took place yesterday in the game between the Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres. As soon as it was known what was going on it was reminiscent of a similar accident that had taken place nineteen years prior in the same building.
If you are curious enough… go to YouTube.com and type in “Zednick” for the accident yesterday… and “Malarchuk” for the accident nineteen years ago. I’m not going to post up video because that’s just not right for me to do.

Anyway, kudos to the medical staff at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo for their quick work to stabilize Zednick… and kudos to the fans for their standing ovation when it was announced that Zednick was in stable condition and being transported to the hospital.
Now for those who are not going to get kudos from me today… the NHL and the referees. Instead of doing the obvious and proper thing of calling the game and rescheduling it at a later date… within fifteen minutes of the incident the zambonis had cleaned the ice and play was resumed. Neither team would have been that in focus to the game to play again… their minds would have been on Zednick. And it showed… they were just going through the motions for the remainder of the game.
In 2005 when Jiri Fischer collapsed unconscious on the Detroit bench that game was delayed… trying to find something on the game in which Malarchuk was injured but not seeing anything… and nothing about the game in which Trent McCleary was struck in the throat from a slapshot that collapsed his airway.
Colin Campbell was in attendance at that game… and he had the right to postpone the game and yet they continued.

Shame on the NHL office… and shame on the referees. You control the game… you can call it over at any time. And with something like this those in attendance would have understood completely.

In completely randomness, it seems that there was a worldwide march/protest by those wacky folks from the internet on the Church of Scientology. Several interesting posts about the various marches/protests… some quite humorous. Definitely worth checking out…

New keg was delivered on Saturday. ^_^
In fact, that’s when we think I might have twisted my knee or ankle in helping to carry the thing up the stairs. Go RSD for being a pain in my ass… not literally… O_o

well… back to work… got things to do… and try to get home at a decent hour so that I might be able to soak in the tub for a bit to see if I can possibly ease some of that swelling and muscle tightness in my leg.

This day shall live on in infamy…

Filed under: Anaheim Ducks, work crap — Niekon @ 10:40 am

ok, it was yesterday but how often do you manage to get not one but two California teams in New York playing against two different teams in the same city on the same day? The odds aren’t exactly in the favor of any sort of betting man… unless you happen to be the NHL and love to have some of the wonkiest schedules the league has ever seen.

*SPOILER ALERT*
Both the Kings and Ducks beat the Rangers and Islanders, respectively
*END SPOILER ALERT*

Let’s talk Ducks…
For anyone who has been following this team, you know about the horrible play of the Ducks over the previous five games. The people were there (except Samuel Pahlsson… still) but the Ducks got frustrated and would fall apart. I think the best game of those five games was when they played the St. Louis Blues… game ended up scoreless going into the shootout. Anaheim played well… they were shooting the pucks… they were hitting the Blues players… there was a Parros fight… but in the end they lost in the shootout (go figure).

Next day they played the Philadephia Flyers… again they were taking the shots at the goal… they were hitting the Flyers players… and there was a Parros fight that ended with Parros landing the KO on Riley Cote (great fight… uppercut just leveled Cote and he dropped to the ice like a ton of bricks). But with all of that we could not get the puck into the back of the net and ended up falling apart and getting demolished.

Flip forward to yesterday morning. Anaheim is in New York doing their morning skate… Teemu Selanne who has been with this team for the entire roadtrip and practicing with the team seems to have a more determined look on his face. Could this be the night that the Finnish Flash comes out and does to the Islanders the first time that he donned a Ducks uniform (Mighty Ducks then)?
I miss the entire first period… surprise… it’s a 4pm game and I didn’t walk out of the office until a bit after 4pm. Seems to have been a decent period… slow… some shots on goal that was fairly even.
I am tuned in for the final forty minutes at least, right? Yup… and sure enough I hear Selanne’s name and look up to see him on the ice. I am happy again… now to get Pahlsson back on the ice again then I can toss a load for good measure.
The goalless streak that Anaheim had sunk into for over 2-1/2 games was finally snapped with not one, not two, but three unanswered goals by Anaheim. Giguere got the shutout… and I was happy to see some shots making it past the goaltenders on the other side of the ice once again.

Wednesday is a quick trip to the White House to smash the Stanley Cup over the head of Bush 2.0… I mean to meet with him and present him with a team jersey… yeah… that’s the ticket… team jersey…

And then back to New York again to play on Thursday… this time against the Rangers. And then a hop across the river to face the Devils on Friday. Woot… O_o

Seriously though… what the fuck is up with the larger number of back-to-back games for Anaheim this year? And many of them so close to each other? Anaheim has one of the most fucked up schedules in the NHL this season. And somehow this has to even out by the end of the season… O_o

So welcome back Selanne… don’t get hurt. And try not to let the rest of the team suck…

ok… I know I want to post more but right now trying to play catch-up with paperwork since my Shipping & Receiving department seems to want until absolutely too late to give me paperwork. Seems others are having issue as well and it’s all coming to a point that we are unable to perform our job functions within reasonable periods of time due to their lack of whatever… so we shall see what, if anything, happens in the near future…
