mark your calendars…

Filed under: Me!!! — Niekon @ 8:32 am

If you were interested in being flung out of an airplane at 13,000 feet with some person strapped onto your back and that person controls whether you live or die with one yank of a cord to deploy a parachute… OR if you are interested in watching some of us make complete fools of ourselves as we make another tandem jump… then mark those calendars in pencil for 12 April…

This date is completely tentative and could change depending on various factors… the main being trying to get CacheCrash moved in a couple of doors down first. Skydiving second.

For those interested in making the jump this is where we will be going: Skydive Taft. Prices are pretty good… and whoever gets paired up with Jester, if he’s on that day… best of luck. I kid!!!! Seriously… he’s a good guy… ^_^

For those interested in just watching… Taft is about 2-1/2 hours north of where I live out in the boondocks of nothingness.

Preparations for the day: food… drink… sunscreen… comfy clothing… and something to do during the wait.
We will be trying to get there as close to opening as possible… probably leaving my place around 6am. If interested in making the jump, let me know here or on AIM so that we can be sure to get the reservation set for the right number of people. It can change… just want to have a general idea of what we are expecting.

this will be x-posted to my other journals

I want more!!!!

Filed under: Me!!! — Niekon @ 11:31 am

my apologies to those who are saw this originally on LiveJournal or Myspace, but there are folks I know that aren’t members of either sites and only get updates on my life via this journal…

So… what did you do Easter Weekend? Me? I tumbled out of an airplane at 13,000 feet… and there is video of me doing it.
For a first jump it’s amazing I did anything we had been instructed to do on the ground. Keep your knees and feet together… don’t look down at the ground… look to your left when at the door before jumping… et cetera.
As you will be able to tell, I followed how many of them? Yeah… I suck ^_~

I just had watched my brother and wife’s cousin jump ahead of me… so yeah… I’m looking down. Feet and knees together? Not the way that harness was up in my crotch… I was trying and failing miserably. Don’t look down at the ground… I think I was doing well with that one for the most part since I was trying to stay focused on the camera guy…
Things I did manage to do right… the roll out I kept my arms crossed across my chest… and tucked my head for the somersaults. On the landing kept my legs tucked up until I was told to stand and take a few steps… which kept us from having to slide in or tumble in.

Things I will do for the next jumps:
1) take out the 4ga ring in my ear again…
2) out with the teeth. I almost lost the bottoms part way through the freefall and had to clamp my jaw shut
3) Milady wants to do something different with my hair… a nice color to make me look more like those little troll dolls…
4) try to find some pants that won’t hurt as badly when they tighten the harness straps in my crotch.

So now… for your viewing pleasure… Niekon, Scary Teddy, and CacheCrash jumping out of a plane…

let’s do a little math…

how about we add you and me together… then we’ll subtract our cloths… divide your legs… and then multiply…

No? Okay… nevermind then. Damn, it’s been over a month with a post that was not significantly about the Ducks or hockey in general. Too bad that trend will have to continue… ^_~

Mwahahahahaha!!!!

For anyone with any sort of reading skills, you should be aware by now that the Ducks captain Chris Pronger received an eight game suspension last week for an alleged “stomp” on a Vancouver player the previous game.
a) was it a stomp? The second time it was more of a kicking with the skate blade pointed towards the Vancouver players calf… but a hardcore stomp? No way. How about when the player was on the ice and swung his skate up toward Pronger’s head? Or later in the play when he scissored Pronger’s leg essentially interfering with Pronger’s ability to get back into the play? Is that interference? Holding? But in light of everything it’s the Ducks captain that gets the long rest and will be coming back for the final game of the regular season.

b) was the video footage so difficult to obtain the day after the game that it was initially ruled as inconclusive and only after a huge firestorm from the online community and “evidence of another video angle” did the NHL go back to look at it and suspend Pronger? I realize that Pronger is a hated player amongst the fans around the NHL (unless he happens to play for your team of course), but come on… you were all ignoring everything else going on in the play and focusing on one small bit of the entire play. Nevermind the fact that Pronger’s leg was being held by the Vancouver player and he was not going to let go if at all possible… because it’s Pronger. It’s all Pronger’s fault, right? There’s a 7.2 earhtquake in China… it’s Pronger’s fault… just look at his rap sheet… he ought to be kicked out of the league. Amy Winehouse posed nekkid for breast cancer awareness and thus causing mass suicides around the globe… it’s Pronger’s fault… he elbowed her up against the wall and ripped her cloths off of her and made her stand there with a guitar covering her nasty bits. He needs to be expelled from the league as should all of his children and his children’s children just to be sure that this type of play is not allowed to continue.

c) and speaking of the online community… get the fuck over yourselves. You bitch that the league is fixed and that Burke owns the NHL because Pronger got no suspension. He gets the 8-game suspension and you bitch that it’s not long enough and that Burke has the league in his backpocket. My god… what next? Write in a loser defenseman on the NHL All-Star ballot and watch him actually get voted into the All-Star game? Way to go… couldn’t possibly think of writing in an under-rated player who might deserve it more. Your anonymous voices are only going to be heard for so long before other finally realize there is a mute button on their computer… or sorts. Online petitions don’t do crap… and a lot of loud obnoxious anonymous comment on blogs and forums just reek of trolling. Come on… show yourself or are you worried the sunlight might actually burn you?

Enough on that though…
First game of Pronger’s suspension also happened to coincide with our eary St. Patrick’s Day celebration at my place since we knew it was probably going to be late before I got home and too late to cook the corned beef. So we did everything a couple of days before and turned it into a group Ducks viewing party. Two folks in attendance decided to do vodka shots every time that the announcers mentioned Pronger in the context of his suspension… and two shots if they played the video footage from the previous game at any point in time DURING the game. They were allowed one freebie since we knew it was going to get mentioned at the beginning of the game during the warm-ups and stuff… no biggie. But I think Milady got up to ten shots and was texting her cousin. Nothing worse then drunken texting… except maybe drunken phone calls to Germany at midnight (or was it 1am) ^_~
Anaheim delivers a nice blow to the St. Louis Blues that evening… making Manny Legace look like he actually played for the Kings. A lot of dumb mistakes on his part but also a lot of mistakes on his teams part too. Sure the Blues fans whined afterwards… but I could have sworn that Anaheim took more bloody penalties than St. Louis. St. Louis just wasn’t ready to play that night… suck it up. I hate the stupid losses that Anaheim have on occasion and I know where things went wrong just by watching the damn game.

Second game of Pronger’s suspension was an away game… against our potential first round partners, the Dallas Stars. Rough and tumble game all night… and I even missed about half of the first period because I thought the game started at 6:30… not 5:30. FUCK!!!! Missed the May fight in the first five minutes of the game… and catching it the next day over at HockeyFights.com it was a nice fight… no clear winner though if I had to rule either way it would go the Dallas player for his later punches.
Dallas scored first… short-handed. Anaheim ties it up on a later powerplay. The rest of the game is an exchange of players in the penalty box for both sides… and then there is the bullshit call that no one could make any sense out of. On a faceoff, a Dallas player takes a high stick to the face but no call from the ref who is standing right there and sees the play… after a nice and long scrum at the net at the end of the play, Anaheim is called for a double-minor… one for high-sticking and one for roughing. High-sticking? Really? I wish these refs would go back and watch the games they just officiated because the player that you called for high-sticking had his stick nowhere near the Dallas player and it was down on the ice. So unless the Dallas play is kissing the ice there is no way that stick could hit him in the face. In the end… Todd Bertuzzi somehow gets into the mind of Marty Turco and Turco is figuring he would try to get a goaltender interference call against Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi hits this very odd angle shot that somehow squirts by Turco and plops right down on the ice past the line. GOAL!!!!! Twenty-seven seconds left in the game… I am fuckin’ losing my mind at this point. Again… Dallas fans are crying about this and that. Turco crying that he was interfered with on the first goal… and continued to cry to the refs for a few minutes after the puck was dropped again.

Game three without Pronger is tonight against the San Jose Sharks… SJ is playing hot… damn hot, but this is the first game that we have played SJ since Selanne returned. And we all know what happened last year… SJ coach Ron Wilson challenged the curve of Selanne’s stick going into the OT session… and they ended up winning the game on the powerplay.
Anaheim fans didn’t forget about it… and I know Selanne didn’t forget about it. There might be an errant stick flying towards Wilson… check the hands of Selanne ^_~

And Anaheim has to keep enough in the tanks to make the flight to Phoenix for another game tomorrow evening… I love Bryzgalov but damn dude… we cannot beat them with him in net now… O_o

Okay… it’s late… I want to get home at some point in time this evening before the game. Got the paperwork to pack up for the weekend to work on to ease my Monday morning… and will get some “me time” this evening during the game while all of my guests go out to Koji’s for shabu-shabu since it seems folks forget me mentioning last night that Anaheim played tonight and tomorrow night.

Maybe at some point I’ll actually start posting about stuff that isn’t hockey-related. O_O

last minute notice…

Filed under: Guinness — Niekon @ 8:22 am

Okay… since the 17th happens to fall on a Monday this year and it has somehow become a tradition of sorts for my place to be the place for food and Guinness… Milady and I have decided at the last minute that we shall be opening up our doors a couple of days early this year since she and I will probably be working late on the 17th at our respective jobs.

Saturday, 15 March: corned beef… cabbage… potatoes… Guinness… and who knows what else we can wrangle up. Be warned… there is a Ducks game that evening as well at 7pm PDT. I’d probably say 5ish at the earliest… and the corned beef does seem to disappear rather quickly no matter how many briskets we cook up.

If you are interested in coming over just drop me a line here or via the many other means one can get hold of me… AIM, YIM, email, text message, cellphone, telegraph, mental telepathy, smoke signals, semaphore, et cetera.
The sooner I know the better I can plan for the amount of food I’m about to buy ^_^

* yes, this is being cross-posted to a couple of places… if you are getting this via the LJ feed or other feeds you might be seeing this announcement a couple of times *
