You ever get the feeling that no matter how many good times you have in a certain period of time, they will always be outshined by the horrible times? That is my month currently…
Last month I placed an order for the latest series of World of Warcraft figures through an online store that Cache and I have both dealt with before. It seems that there was an update to their software since the last time we had ordered… in fact it had just gone up a week or so prior to placing my order. It seemed that there was a dormant payment gateway port that was tested during construction of the new site but never put into use… thus it was left wide open for some asshole to sneak in and grab the information of whomever.
Guess who’s information got compromised? Initially I got a letter from my bank informing me that they had been alerted to this compromise followed about a week and a half later by an email from the owner of the comic book store that was involved. The email was quite detailed and apologetic… and I can’t fault them totally for it.
Last week got my new card… but didn’t activate it until I got my new PIN which was this past Monday which I did upon arriving home from work. Then I noticed that the expiration on my new card was just a week away. Immediately drop a message to the bank informing them of this… and also call them in the morning. I was concerned because I have stuff on pre-order that I need to change the card number for before it ships. Seems I wasn’t the only person that this happened to and I should be seeing my new card hopefully before the end of the month.
Yesterday I start to notice weird little transactions on my account that should not be there at all… and I immediately notify the bank and I got a cardholder affidavit that I have to fill out. This morning… find a couple more small transactions so again I was on the phone with the bank and getting more paperwork. I’m guessing this will be happening for a few more days so I can be expecting to be calling a few more times since I was told there were some pending transactions (we even went through them over the phone but they can’t do anything until it clears on my account).
For now… I’m looking at the places that have my money now. And all of them are rather small and would not be noticed if I weren’t looking closely. Then I’d be trying to figure out why I was suddenly short somewhere.
I found out three of the four transactions thus far. It’s the fourth one that is causing me some trouble as I can’t figure out the name nor the phone number as it left off a digit on my online statement. All I know is that they are out of Clearwater, FL.
The only good news I have right now? My fridge is coming this Saturday… and the Ducks have won five straight games to move into the #7 slot in the Western Conference. Damn that was an embarrassing game for Colorado last night…
